Hi, I have some debts that were defaulted coming up to six years ago - I am making reduced payments on them at present. I understand that defaults come off your credit record after six year but I can't find reference via the forum search facility on what happens if I'm making reduced payments/ there is still an outstanding balance. Can anyone advice what my credit record will show once it is 6 years after the default whilst I'm still making reduced payments on the debt? Thanks

Hi all, I am currently residing overseas and am soon to be moving back to the UK. I struggled with managing my finances when I lived in the UK and regrettably left some debts behind, however I'm now in the position to pay these off (either fully or for reduced amounts). The debts are around 8 years old so they have completely dropped off my credit history in the UK. I have a blank credit record. The DCA/banks have stated that if I pay these off they will mark the credit record entry as 'settled'. What I want to know is, if I pay these off, will the DCA/bank be putting a new entry on my credit record or would they simply attempt to 'update' the existing entry (which is no longer there). My concern is that if they add a new entry then it may look bad when applying for credit in the future, as it might point out to anyone looking that the related debt is very old and therefore obviously defaulted at some point. My other question is, would HSBC (for example) have me on a 'blacklist' of some kind, to avoid lending to me in the future, or is it all credit report based? PS the debts are reasonably small and not statute barred as I maintained token payments during my time away. Any thoughts on this ? Many thanks

I have lived overseas for many years. I tried to open an account on noddle.co.uk to see what my credit details were. I didn't manage this because they couldn't verify my ID with their online process. Could be because my card has a foreign address or it could be that the old UK address I used to register was so old they couldn't find a record of me there. Now I'm wondering how, or if, the banks are able to register my credit use. As I understand it, a lot of information is recorded with credit agencies including when you pay/miss a payment, take out a loan. I still have a British credit card, even though I have been out of the country for a very long time. I'm probably not going to be able to pay that back (change of circumstances) so this is why I'm interested. I wonder what debt collection agencies will have on me when they pick up the debt. I'm also wondering what my credit record will be if I ever go back to the UK, given the potential difficulty of registering the default against me. My card company DEFINITELY don't have my old UK address on file. I called them and checked. I've no plans to go back to the UK. I doubt I will even be going back to Europe in a long time.
