  2. Barclays it seems have made dormant a whole lot of accounts including my own (due to inactivity). Having filled in the necessary dormant account form to get access to the money in that account I phoned today to check on its progress. I have been told they are taking 12 weeks to process these requests. This seems to me to be an outrageous length of time. No justification given other than they seem to have many other such requests. They were not even able to confirm whether or not they had received my request! This all to me seems utterly unacceptable. Anyone any tips on how I can speed this process up? I have complained to the Financial Ombudsmen but the time in which Barclays will need to respond to this is 8 weeks - though this is less than 12!
  3. Hi I am a little unclear on the rules around accounts and defaults. I have account which has been in dispute for a very long time with the credit company who kept passing the account from one DCA to another who then sent it back when I informed them of the dispute. Earlier this month the account was marked as satisfied with the credit reference agencies, and this week I received a letter from Lowell with the usual threatening tone. I have replied in the letter, and as well as stating that no debt is acknowledged I have also stated that no contract or agreement exists as I have received no notification from the original credit company. I have asked for a full list documents under CPR (they mentioned legal action so I took advantage). What I wanted to know is what right do Lowell now have about placing a default or even an account with the credit reference agencies since the original creditor has marked the account as satisfied. I have no agreement with Lowell and they have yet to produce a deed of assignment. If they place a default on the credit file, can I object to have it removed if there is no Deed Of Assignment?
  4. Unfortunately co-op (the (un)ethical) bank has decided to stop giving out basic bank accounts to bankrupts from tomorrow. see their site for further details http://www.co-operativebank.co.uk/servlet/Satellite/1347603516521,CFSweb/Page/CFSCtplStandard
  5. Is there a 'race to the bottom' in the basic bank account market? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-19621680 I think banks need to be told that they should offer basic account that; Are free Allow direct debits, standing orders, direct credit, faster payment Counter service Online banking (if offered to other normal customers) Debit card Availiable to everyone without a credit check (ex cons, bankrupts etc) Universal Credit will be a bank only benefit. Everyone now needs free access to the banking system. Co Op should be proud that their account has been the best for so long not unhappy that they have an 'unfair' market share.
  6. Granted it's Noddle, but the closed accounts listed on Noddle just show settled - and not whether they were in default or satisfactory. Provided a closed account shows as settled (regardless of how the account was run) does it have an effect on one's credit rating? BSBS.
  7. Hiya Just had another letter from Lowells telling me how easy it is to set up a direct debit to pay off an old mobile debt - i've disputed the debt many mnths ago but you have to admire their persistence! Anyway... they've added a line at the bottom of the letter saying "We won't add any interest to your account whilst you are repaying it". As far as I'm aware they can't do that but before I send them a letter back reminding them that they've still not supplied me with any documentation I justthought I'd pop it on here and ask if there's something I'm missing? I was going to ask them forthe T&Cs which related to adding interest or some sort of guidance which stipulated that DCAs could add interest to debts? BSBS
  8. Santander has staged an about-turn and will no longer withdraw its "free banking forever" account from 230,000 small business customers. The original decision, first revealed in late July, upset some customers who thought the bank was reneging on an unbreakable promise to them. They would have had to pay either £7.50 or £12.50 a month for a business bank account that was previously free. Santander had previously said it was within its right to change the account. But less than two months after first announcing the change, it has reversed its policy. "After listening to feedback from our existing customers, a small number of whom do not feel their businesses would benefit from these changes, we will be retaining the fee-free option for existing customers," a spokesman said. One factor that may have weighed on the bank's mind is that every one of the affected customers could have taken their complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS). This would have cost the bank £500 each time in FOS administration fees and could, theoretically, have landed it with a bill of £115m if every customer had taken this route. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-19506634
  9. Hi, I have a question which has been bugging me for a few weeks now and I hope someone can help...... My son is in the Royal Navy and lives on base in Devonport. He has started seeing a girl from his home town and goes up there most weekends to see her. He stays there usually Friday and Saturday nights. She is a single parent and in receipt of benefits. However he in no way contributes to her household. Unfortunately, someone decided to inform the Housing Benefits that she had a partner living with her (untrue) and she was called in for an Interview under Caution. She had a solicitor, who apparently told her they were just fishing, but someone who knew them well must have informed them as they new a lot of details regarding my son. What I don't understand is, the Officers at the Housing office had copies of my SON's Bank Statements??? And were asking questions such as ......James spent £20 at KFC on such a date, did you go with him? etc... I totally agree that any type of fraud is wrong. What I can't get my head around is, of course I would expect them to have her bank statements etc as she is the one under investigation. But how did they get my son's statements? They are not linked in any way. To be honest I'm a bit suspicious with regards to my son's girlfriend, but then I suppose you could put that down to being a Mom. Any help, or answers would be more than welcome.

  11. Hello all, Hope someone can answer this simple query. I have/had five accounts with one bank, how many SAR's will I need to obtain the info required. Thanks in advance for the help
  12. Please be wary if you ever have to open an executors account. Following the very distressing loss of my mother last year, my brother and I opened an executors account with HSBC, the bank she had used for many years. Having finalised the estate administration I thought I should ensure that all the interest had been paid in to the account. When I examined the statements more closely I saw that what we had was a 0% interest account. Perhaps this is something I should have noticed before, but it never occurred to me that it would be necessary to check. I went in to the branch today to query this and was told that they don't pay interest on any of their current accounts. When I asked why they had decided that was the most suitable account I was told that was generally what executors wanted and that they normally ask if executors would prefer a savings account. Neither my brother or can recall being asked this, if we had been, we would have taken that option. I had assumed that the bank would have a duty of care to provide the best service they could - I was wrong. I have no idea how much interest has been lost over the past 10 months, but with something around £130k being paid in, I am sure it is considerable. I am left feeling angry, cheated and somewhat stupid. Don't get caught out - check and double check that you are getting the best deal
  13. Sorry if in wrong place, but please reply! I paid off a loan with PPI in 2005 but do not have the account number. It was a business loan which I applied for, will submitting a SAR be my next action as the bank (LLoyds) won't help when I have phoned them. Thanks for any advice at all.
  14. I have 12 bad credit accounts, how do I rebuild my credit without acknowledging my debts? As some debts are coming up to the statue barred limitation period?? Any help would be appriciated.
  15. Millions of NatWest and Royal Bank of Scotland customers have been hit by technical problems which have resulted in balances not being updated and online services being unavailable. A message on the banks' websites reads: "We are currently experiencing some technical issues which means that account balances have not been updated, and are still showing a balance from Wednesday. Some services are also unavailable online. We are working hard to fix this issue as soon as possible and will keep you updated on progress." http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2012/jun/21/natwest-rbs-customer-technical-hitches
