  1. Morning all. Here are my queries. There are posts on here that give a background to my 'problems' relating to JSA/ESA etc. I haven't signed yet off JSA. I haven't signed on either. Let me explain - briefly. Two weeks ago I signed on after being kicked off ESA CB as I had exhausted my allocation of 365 days (albeit still under the cardiac consultant and a note signing me off until March 2013). I received a letter from DWP that said my JSA CB would commence on the 7/01/2013 but they couldn't pay anything from the 19/01/2013 as my entitlement based on class 1 NI contributions has run out. When I queried this at the job centre all I got was a shrug of the shoulders and told to inquire about Pension Credit. A raft of paperwork to fill in if I was to 'sign off' JSA. Loads of phone calls later it transpires that our meager savings plus my (small local government pension - taken early) plus wife's state pension takes our weekly 'income' £20 per week over the threshold. So, no benefits of any kind - nothing. I have taken the view and had it confirmed by JC+ staff that I have more than enough contributions (nearly 50 years this year) in hand to qualify for a full pension in June 2013 that I am no longer going to incur expenses in travelling to the job centre to sign on. DWP can sanction me as many times as they want (I quite like the idea of 'civil disobedience'). I will not help them fiddle the figures any more than they are doing at present. Not sure whether this is the right route but I am totally sickened by the way this morally corrupt government is treating those its supposed to be supporting. If any-one on the forum has any suggestions I will gladly take them on board. Thanks for reading. DavidN
  2. Social campaigners Over a month what do you spend 10 minutes doing? Queuing for the bus? Waiting for the kettle to boil? Trying to figure out 4 across? If you’re like us, you probably spend a lot longer than 10 minutes doing these things. Why not sign-up to become a Citizens Advice social campaigner and give us just 10 minutes each month so together we can make society fairer for everyone? Social campaigners will use social media to campaign on behalf of Citizens Advice and help us make a difference for everyone in the country. What do we want? We know you’re busy so let’s get to the point. If you join us we’ll send you an email every month that suggests three super quick actions for you to take. It might be to share some of our advice with your friends, watch a video, tell your MP about our campaign, or fill in a survey. Whatever the action, it will always be making a difference for our campaigns and our clients’ lives. Of course, it’s always optional (you don’t have to click our links!) and won’t take longer than 10 minutes. You can see how easy it is from our previous campaigner actions. Why should you bother? Each year Citizens Advice Bureaux see millions of people who really need our help there and then. A lot of these individual problems reveal bigger collective problems which can hurt us all so we take what we learn advising people and change the causes of their problems. We do this through campaigning. And with your help we can change more lives for the better. But what if you don’t use social media yet? Don’t worry if you’re not a social media expert, the actions will be simple and full guidance will be given with each email so you don’t need to be, but if you do want to learn a bit more about social media we’ve put together some resources for our campaigners on what makes a good social campaigner. Social campaigner resources Sign me up! So you want to join? Congratulations on making this excellent decision we just need a few details. Social campaigner sign up And you can check out our previous campaigner actions if you're still not sure. http://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/social_campaigners.htm
  3. Writing on behalf of my family member. - I apologize for future inconvenience if this is so a simple question. Location: Lutton Place, Edinburgh Date of Issue: 11th October 2012 Bit of a background: On 10th October, We had difficulty finding a space to park on South clerk street after an evening night out. Round about 10pm. We had a user permit but there was no space whatsoever, this led us to go onto Lutton place to find a space and parked there and left. Obviously now we noticed it was a single yellow line! The exact same spot where the white bmw is parked. [picture] On the 11th October, our car got towed away by the Edinburgh council. The reason was parking on a single yellow line. The problem is. At lutton place at Edinburgh there was no sign whatsoever mentioning what time can you park - what are the restricted hours. However there are pay and display signs dotted around and also resident permit holders only for the parking bays. As you can see in the picture. There are 2 cars currently parked at the single yellow line with both disabled badges. I do know they have the right to park there for a period of time. The red and White car. My argument stands that is there any reason that we could appeal against this charge. The main reason being that it doesn't mention when are the restricted hours? The total amount we had to pay was £180 including the removal release fee etc. the quote from an letter from the council: "The car was parked for 6hours and 42minutes and therefore it was considered to be parked as opposed to being utilized for loading/unloading. This meant that the vehicle may have caused an inconvenience to other motorists wishing to carry out loading operations at this particular location " I apologize for the bad pictures. If you do see a sign far away, it is a pay and display or a residents permit sign. I have checked each and every one of them. If there are definite grounds of appeal. I will go back and take proper photographs. Thank you very much for your time, Craig http://i.imgur.com/zruVh.jpg - residents parking sign http://i.imgur.com/8ijLb.jpg - yellow line separating the parking bays http://i.imgur.com/ldGrj.jpg http://i.imgur.com/oN13o.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Uw01g.jpg http://i.imgur.com/Hn93u.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ABo0q.jpg http://i.imgur.com/4Bhck.jpg http://i.imgur.com/tv2Lj.jpg http://i.imgur.com/1HGIw.jpg http://i.imgur.com/F76Dy.jpg http://i.imgur.com/qbrft.jpg example of pay and display- sorry for bad photo
  4. Some sick people out there. http://www.causes.com/actions/1679274?fb_action_ids=390023121066148&fb_action_types=causes%3Asign&fb_source=other_multiline&action_object_map=%7B%22390023121066148%22%3A278603672255404%7D&action_type_map=%7B%22390023121066148%22%3A%22causes%3Asign%22%7D&action_ref_map=[] There is also a video link on the same page that proves it is real. But is heartbreaking to watch.
  5. This was emailed to me this morning. I urge all Caggers to sign the petition because of the wide-ranging consequences of what this secretive body is planning. Dear friends, We have four days to stop a top-secret global corporate power grab that attacks everything from a free Internet to environmental protections. This agreement is being negotiated right now by bureaucrats backed by corporate lobbyists. Click below to crash their secret meeting with our global call to kill the TPP deal: Details are leaking of a top-secret, global corporate power grab of breathtaking scope -- attacking everything from a free Internet to health and environmental regulations, and we have just 4 days to stop it. Big business has a new plan to fatten their pockets: a giant global pact, with an international tribunal to enforce it, that is kept top secret for years (even from our lawmakers!) and then brought down like a Death Star on our democracies. Big Tobacco, Big Oil, Big Pharma, Walmart and almost 600 other corporate lobbyists are all in on the draft -- including limits on smoking laws, affordable medicines and free speech on the Net. The latest round of negotiations ends in just 4 days -- but outcries in each of our countries could shake the confidence of negotiators and scuttle the talks forever. Let's get to a million against the global corporate takeover. Sign below and forward widely. Avaaz will project our petition counter on the walls of the conference so negotiators can see the opposition to their plan exploding in real time: http://www.avaaz.org/en/stop_the_corporate_death_star/?bWGgIcb&v=17866 The deal, called the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), is written to protect investors from government regulation, even if that regulation is passed in the public interest. Leaked versions suggest the TPP would undermine protections for air and water safety and reintroduce measures from the US Internet freedom attack as well as steamrolling efforts to produce generic affordable medicines. Worse still, lawmakers who fail to conform to the TPP’s rules face sanctions in an international tribunal -- a place where corporations can sue us for deals previous governments signed in secret! Negotiators say this is just a trade agreement, written to facilitate investment and profit for all. But the leaked draft imposes so many limits on citizen protections, it's clear this "trade" agreement is skewed to put corporate profit above people's needs -- that's not surprising since it's been drafted in secret with almost 600 corporate lobbyists. But there is hope: Australia is bucking against the international tribunal system, and New Zealand is objecting to the takeover of its medicine-pricing protections that keep drugs affordable. Massive public opposition, casting doubt over each country's ability to sell TPP at home, could derail the talks for good. Sign the petition now, and forward widely -- the delegates and lobbyists are watching the wave of opposition grow in real time: http://www.avaaz.org/en/stop_the_corporate_death_star/?bWGgIcb&v=17866 US candidate for Senate, Elizabeth Warren in a recent speech said: “Corporations are not people. People have hearts, they have kids, they get jobs, they get sick, they cry, they dance. They live, they love, and they die. And that matters, because we don't run this country for corporations, we run it for people." Let’s reach one million to stop the corporate takeover of our governments. With hope, Iain, Pedro, Laura, Ari, Emma, Lisa, Luca, Ricken and the whole Avaaz team PS - Avaaz has launched Community Petitions, an exciting new platform where it's quick and easy to create a campaign on any issue you care strongly about. 6. Hi there, I wonder if someone might be able to help me with a query I have. I purchased a property 5 years ago which was a converted police station and in the "garden" (patch of tarmac outside the sitting room windows) was a large (approx 25ft tall, and 4ft square CCTV camera) and also a sign directing traffic to a nearby car-park. I get no financial compensation for them. I wasn't fussed about them really - but I changed my garden fence and the council have been around saying that the fence was too high and saying that if I didn't take 2ft off the top then they would take me to court. It seems that before I bought the place someone else had tried to add a higher fence - the council kicked up saying it was against planning, the owners at the times didn't apply for retrospective planning permission so it went to court and it was judged that a fence that high could never be sited there (which was annoying for me). The planning offices said I had no option but to cut down the fence or they would just take it to court and it would go straight though as it had already been agreed. Well, I have cut the fence down - but I have this CCTV camera and sign post in my garden (which I now want rid off!) I have looked through the deeds and there is no mentions of them - and nothing I can see on any other documents. would anyone happen to know: a) Would I be entitled to anything from the council for these being sited on my land? b) Would I be entitled to request they resite them, and make good the garden? c) Would I have a leg to stand on writing to them about the above, or could they just make my life more difficult? Many thanks in advance Graham
