  1. I'm hoping you can give me some advice as regards how best to deal with this: I received a magistrates fine for non-payment of car tax. I wrote to the court in advance of the hearing, explaining the reasons for my non-payment and the fact that my income is non-existent. They decided on a reduced fee of £65, to be paid in weekly £5 installments. I missed some of these payments and they then transferred the debt to Marstons. As soon as I received the letter notifying me of this, I arranged to have the fee paid in full (fortunately, we'd just received a small amount of cash which we used up for this). The court wrote back to say that the payment had been received but that we'd still have to pay any debt collector's fee separately. I came downstairs today to find a a removal notice (no envelope) from Marstons. Apparently they called but I didn't hear them. The notice said that payment of £275 is due to HMCS. They demand immediate payment, failing which they'll return and may 'remove goods even in [my] absence'. Our situation is currently dire. I'm well qualified but can't find work. I'm not on any benefits because until last year I ran my own business from home. Since then I've had a career change. it's going well but it's all voluntary for the moment. My tax is all over the place (I have an accountant working on it but even that's proving problematic - I'm yet to hear from the Inland Revenue that I owe nothing even though my accountant says that it's all been processed). My husband is American and also out of work. He's not entitled to benefits either. I have a daughter to a previous partner - he's moved abroad and pays nothing. Any money I have comes from family or the very occasional ex client who contacts my husband. Even that only pays very small amounts. I always thought that the best thing was to ignore Bailiffs - don't open the door. I'm aware that this might not go away even then though. I really don't know what to do. Thanks in advance for any advice!
  2. I wonder if someone can advise me. I had debt with the council tax for £360 because of defaulted payments. And a debt for £325 from previous years. Manchester city council set up an attachment of earning certificates and took £662 out of my salary last month in one fell swoop they were able to do this due to the fact that I had earned some overtime for the first time in months. I thought to myself ah well its paid now lets get on with things........ So I thought then today while I was at work my son called me to tell me that the bailiffs had been and that they were coming to seize my goods if I had not paid the amount owing in 24 hours. I called them back and told them that there was some mistake as I had an attachment of earnings on last months salary but they were having none of it and said 24 hours or they will take goods. They said that they can enter my home even if I am not there and take goods. I asked for a breakdown of cost which work out at £375 of the previous debt, £200 for the van to come out and £100 for the court costs. working out at £670 that has to be paid in 24 hours I can do this. I dont have the money what can I do???? 2me2u2
  3. Have just received a FPN for parking 'on a roundabout' at 4:05pm. The road in question is a close with a small roundabout at the end. on the green is a sign showing a parking restriction from 8:15 to 9:15am and 2:30 to 4:00pm. The community officer was still there when I returned and said that I parked illegally. I pointed out sign & said it indicted that I could park after 4pm she said she issued a ticket anyway as I am parked on a junction! (its hardly that!) Notice says it I do nor agree can ask to have matter dealt with by court, what I want to know is has anyone got any experience of this - what happens? If I do go to court & lose will it end up costing me loads?
