A verbal matey one unfortunately.

A friend of mine (actually my next door neighbour) has landed herself in a real problem! She went abroad about 14 months ago and let a friend rent her house. Now she is back and has just got her house back. She cannot get her keys back and has just found out that there was no council tax, gas or electric bills paid for the last year at least. On going outside she has found that the electric meter is a pre-payment meter to which she has no key. The gas company will be in court tomorrow to chase £1250 and want to fit another pre payment meter and the council are chasing for payment and have called the bailiffs. Now all these are in her tenants name but she has no tenancy agreement, so where does she stand? There are other problems as well as her husband has left, she is now in arrears on the mortgage, her husband has run up huge debts on his credit cards and the overdraft on the business account is approaching £15000. She's thinking of selling the house but I think the agent is ripping her off by making her sell to areally low offer. It really is like a soap opera over there! Anyway any ideas on the first bit about what she can do about these debts? Thanks a lot.
