Hi all This is my first post. I have been reading the whole site with much interest and felt that a phonecall I recently received from the halifax may be of interest to you all. I have been with the halifax for 14 years, ever since leaving uni and being charged so much by Barclays for going £7.00 overdrawn. I HAVE NEVER (previously) HAD A PROBLEM WITH THEM. About 5 years ago the small company I work for changed accounts to barclays, and during the transition there were a few cock ups, notably with the wages. Realising that the delay would make me overdrawn i imediately contacted the halifax and arranged a 14 day overdraft for £500 pounds. Luckily I never had to use it, and since that day I have been asking them periodically to remove it....it has never been removed so of late I have just tried to forget about it. Last week at about 7.30pm, just as I was bathing the kids, a chap from a halifax call centre called to ask me about the overdraft facility. To my amazement he asked me why I didn't use this facility as this was free money that I had at my disposal and that I was financially naive not to use it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could not get over to him that this was not free money, indeed it was not infact money at all, and that I was not in the habit of spending money that didn't exist and that was not mine. The scary thing is that if bank employees are trained to talk such nonsense, then many of the more vunerable and desparate amongst us will fall into this profit making trap. I was appalled. After a lengthy conversation he asked if I required any credit card cheques, or indeed a loan for a new kitchen or a holiday!!! God help us all. Jonathen
