  4. I am about to lock horns with American Express for the second time in five years. I have heard they are the very worst to deal with; that they will drive you into the ground - they most certainly caused me to become severely mentally They were in correspondence with my solicitors but then they suddenly went quiet. Some short while later I received an out-of-the-blue call from their solicitor who, on his second call to me said, that as these were unique circumstances they would write off the debt. (That was in 2001 and I stayed at that address until 2004 - plenty on time to make contact again!) I was very ill and cannot remember receiving this agreement in writing. My solicitor's file shows a flurry of letters between them and that it suddenly went quiet. I've recently received a letter from a debt collection agency asking e to call them and as I don't owe anyone any money, I did just that. They said I owed AmEx £XXXXX to which I said I didn't. Since then I have not acknowledged their letters nor have I arranged to pick up a letter that they (presumably) sent me recorded delivery. It looks as though AMEX are going to renege on their promise. A recent credit check by a bank shows I am no longer a good credit bet (there goes my parachute). It looks like I'm in for a fight. I suffer with a severe mental illness and I really don't need this. I'm advised that Legal Aid is not available for this type of case and as I cannot afford a solicitor it looks as though it's me against a bottomless pot of money. Any suggestions?
  5. Don't mess around with monkeys contact the organ grinder - James Crosby CEO. You'll find him at HROS Trinity Road Halifax West Yorkshire. Try addressing your evelope (buy something decent) 'For the attention of the addressee'. And if you don't get a prompt response try sending a copy by special delivery. The knack is to make yourself so much of a nuisance that they want you out of their hair. But cover your back. Much luck.
  6. Spoke with Halifax in Leeds. "We are very busy dealing with 'queries' like yours," I was told by a very haggered sounding female. "But the law says we must respond by the 25th April so we will get back to you." All say, "Aah!"

If you 'buy' anything on 'interest free credit' from PC World you will enter in a contract with the HFA BANK. Part of their conditions are that you pay by direct debit. I will not enter into direct debits. I like to be control of my account so will now only pay on-line, I obtained HFA's bank details and continued to pay them. Last and this month my payents were a few days late. I received a letter advising they were going to charge me £100 for the privildge and interest for every day that the account was not paid. I told them to take a hike. Their reaction was to tell me that they would not release me from my contract at the end of the six month term (this allows me to pay them the purchase price of the lap top I was 'sold' by PC World (less the six monthly intalments they had already received)) until these charges were paid. Quoting chapter and verse I told them that what they were doing was illegal. They said they had heard 'what was going on' but they didn't care. They wanted their charges and they would take me to court if I didn't pay them. Looks like someone needs teaching that the law will be obeyed.
  8. Forget Mr Kettle he's obviously a cowardly custard. Try the big cheese - James Crosby CEO Direct Line No 0142232647 Fax No 01422 326688 Address: Halifax Plc Trinity Road Halifax HX1 2RG. Happy hunting. DEE
  9. I tried to catch Mr Kettle in Scotland but they said he was in a meeting. But as I subscribe to 18866 and the cost is zero pence per minute, I said I would hold on. Funny, they then said it would be pointless as they did not know when he would be free. Do you think they have him tied up? DEE
