  5. If it helps:- We eventually got as far as getting a court date with Abbey of 14th Feb. Low and behold, on 1st feb we got a letter saying due to the legal costs Abbey would incur, blah blah they were going to SETTLE IN FULL FOR £3418 + expenses! We got the cheque yesterday 6th Feb. Just hang in there...we were getting twitchy, but obviously it has been well worth it for us. Best of luck all!
  6. Just to let you all know that after a long layoff of chasing Abbey (due to some severe family and financial problems). We eventually got as far as getting a court date with Abbey of 14th Feb. Low and behold, on 1st feb we got a letter saying due to the legal costs Abbey would incur, blah blah they were going to SETTLE IN FULL FOR £3418 + expenses! We got the cheque yesterday 6th Feb. Many many thanks for all the info and advice given here. Now we are going after Abbey again for 2 more accounts with close to £4k more of charges, and another 'layed off' dispute with Halifax for a couple of hundred £. A question: Is it best to specifically mention to Abbey that they have already settled on 1 account when chasing these other 2? Or keeping it quiet? Cheers Gaz
  7. That's a good point, but I 'bumped' in hope of some advice re. the last post/question by myself (err...that'd be the 3rd last post inc. this one). Cheers Gaz
  8. Thanks for the advice....oh, and sorry for the slight highjack. Gaz
  9. How about the medical records of a parent (deceased)? Is it possible to request these? I think, my mother was very badly cared for by home carers. But would like to see records...
  10. I wonder if anyone has any thoughts on this... I recently had a bicycle stolen from the guard's van of a train, during my 5 day a week train/bike commute. Without ranting about the total lack of interest from train or station staff... The reason by bike got stolen was because firstly the guard's vans are left unlocked, secondly un-guarded, thirdly and obsurdly you cannot lock them to the bike racks (health and safety!!) you can only lock the wheels together. As anyone knows who rides a bike the ONLY way to stop a bike being stolen is to lock it to a solid object, or lock it in a safe room/compartment. I have complained, but they (First Great Western) have shown no interest at all in my, or any potential future (and probable past) plight of passengers. So does anyone know what legal liability they may have to safeguard passengers belongings, if any? If it was briefcases or laptops getting stolen off trains there would be uproar! We are after all talking about equipment worth hundreds if not thousands of pounds these days, you don't often see people riding round on bikes worth £50. I have a new, 'cheap' bike now that 'only' cost £700, but it could easily be gone next week- FGW's advice- don't bring it on the train! Thanks in advance Gaz
  11. Hi again. So, we (wife and I) had got to the stage of putting in a court claim on 2nd May after the preceeding letters had been sent at the recommended 14 day intervals. Unfortunately, we weren't in the position, financially, to apply to the small claims court on the 2nd...until now. My question being what should we do now? Just go straight ahead with the court claim- after all Abbey have had the 2 warnings then another almost 3 weeks since. Or should we now give another notification of our intention? Thanks in advance. Gaz
  12. Well, we are heading towards entering a court claim against Abbey (Halifax too) next Tuesday(2nd May). I am beginning filling in the court claim forms...what do people put in the "particulars of claim" box? At least, I couldn't find anything quotable/editable anywhere. Cheers Gaz
