  1. UPDATE! Sent off 2 x LBA letters on 04/09 as stated in my previous post but got reply to my Prelim letter 4 days later (08/09). The letter states the usual Jargon, i.e. they consider thier charges fair, reasonable and transparent (whatever that is supposed to mean?) and they differ with the findings of the OFT etc...etc.... Despite this they will offer as a gesture of goodwill £300 (well just over) for a full and final settlement! This is just over 50% of my claim (not including interest). To be honest i was tempted but thought i would test the water and give them a ring to see if they would increase thier offer. I eventually got to talk directly to Susan Law (who i sent my letters to) and asked if they would meet me somewhere in between their offer and my claim amount. She stated that the offer was a 'Final offer' and she was not authorised to increase it, but suggested i wrote a letter stating that i refuse the offer but i am willing to consider a 'Sensible offer'. So i will do that. Before i send off the letter and refuse the offer what are your thoughts??? Should i have taken the £300 offered to save on the hassle of taking court action? Am i doing the right thing asking for an increased offer? If i am offered another 25% increase i would be tempted to take it to save on the hassle. Especially as cash is very tight at present so i will be struggling to pay for the moneyclaim fee! Or should i stick to my guns and bite the bullet and go fo every penny?
  2. Hi Maggie, Sorry i wasn't able to help you out over the last week, i haven't been on as i was busy. I am now just past your stage. Sent off prelim letter 3 weks ago got a reply with 4 days to go saying that they will reply with in 14 days. I stuck to my 14 day deadline and sent LBA letter. I got a reply to my prelim letter 4 days after i sent LBA (thursday gone) stating the usual i.e. thier charges are fair...blah...blah...blah, But as a gesture of goodwill they will offer me £3** for a full and final settlement (which was half of my claim). To cut a long story short, i am sticking to my guns! Going for Broke! I will update my own thread as soon as i find the time:smile: Good luck with your prelim letter! I got a better response than most i've read...but stil not good enough to satisfy me!
  3. Thanks for your replies, They were pretty much what i thought, but i suppose it's always better to get a second opinion. I won't reply to the Bishopsgate address tho, i will stick to the two addresses previously mentioned rather than have my response passing from dept to dept of NW bank. So i will send two letters - one to each. I will give them until the 31st to send another reply before sending this one (as it's the bank holiday). Thanks again for your replies! tweaker
  4. Just to keep people updated & to keep myself a log etc.... Unlike alot of others who have sent thier letters to higley, i sent my prelim letter to the address below as i was unsure of which address to use & this one was listed in the addresses section. NatWest Credit Management Services 1-3 Kendal court Ironmasters way Telford TF3 4DT I got my 1st reply today but it seems slightly different to the normal letters everyone else has received, but basically the same. What it says is: Dear Tweaker Case Ref: ******* I refer to your concern regarding charges. Initially, let me thank you for your bringing this to my attention, as it is important that we are made aware of any instance where our customers feel that we have fallen below the standards expected of us. As part of the customer care team I will now be dealing with the investigation into your concern until we are able to reach a mutual resolution. I have read your letter carefully and i am currently investigating the issues that you have raised. I will be in contact again by 8th September 2006 to provide you with either a full response or further update of my investigation. I will do my best to resolve your concern quickly and to your complete satisfaction. To make you aware of all the options available to you I have enclosed the leaflet entitled 'Customer Complaints, Making things better', which explains how we handle customers concerns with NatWest Bank. (was enclosed along with another leaflet entitled 'your complaints and the ombudsman') If you would like to contact me in the meantime, please call me on 0845 ******* and i will be happy to help Yours......... (looks like a proper signature) Mrs Susan Law Customer Care Team --------------------------------------------------- Is this the standard type of letter? Should i continue with the 14 days deadline (which runs out in 3 days) and send my LBA letter? or give them until the 8th September to reply? If i should send my LBA Letter, which address should i send it to? the original one at the top of this post or the address on this letter which is: Manchester Retail Services Centre, P.O. Box 484, 1 Hardman Boulevard, MANCHESTER, M60 3NS Thanks in advance for any help!!!:?
  5. Not sure which address myself? as i didn't get my statements this way. Best approache(s) seem to be either: 1) phone NW and request it over the phone or 2) Go into your local branch and request them at the counter. (i did this & recieved mine within 7-10 days). Requests by post seem to be taking quite a while!
  6. Isobel: I was under the impression that mikey would have to send them a LBA (letter before action) before going to mcol? Isn't the process - Prelim...LBA...mcol? I think mikey has only send had his reply from the prelim (correct me if i'm wrong) :-|
  7. No offence taken! I feel over 65 most days anyway I would also like to know which bank you used to open a parachute account? I know they all pee in the same pot but life would be too much of a struggle if i had no account at all! (in fact impossible).
  8. Sorry to butt in, but this may also help me and others (that are thick as two short planks like me)... barracad...what your saying is that: If a claim was for £2000 (excluding interest) and you claimed 0.00022 per day interest, would the charges for interest be 0.44 (44 pence per day)? As i said im thick
  9. Hi Maggie, I'm also at the same stage as weaver. I believe the quickest way to get your statments is to phone NW or ask at the branch (like i did). I got mine within a week to ten days, but if you've already sent off then i'm too late. With a bit luck you won't have to wait as long as some others? What i want to know is...how did you get on opening another bank account (parachute)?...Surely if your in receipt of a state pension no one can refuse to give you at least a basic account ? Would like to know the answer to the above also as i need to open a parachute account. I am also in receipt of state benefits so i need an account in case NW close this one. Good luck & i will also keep an eye on your progress:wink:
  10. Also sent mine off today...Looks like both of ours will arrive at the same time (probably along with 100's more?). I got my statements thru 5 weeks ago but only just plucked up the courage to try... being skint (and in debt) can really motivate a person Good Luck!
  11. Thanks for the reply! Just sent of my prelim today to the Telford address, but not entirely sure i did everything right? What exactly was i supposed to include regarding the 'Schedule of Charges'? I only included a list of dates and charges on a A4 piece of paper. Was this correct???
  12. Yeah i know, but that's to apply for your statements etc... i need an an address to send my preliminary letter to. There seems to be quite a few NatWest addresses in the 'addersses section' but do they all lead to the same department(s)?
  13. Thanks! There dosen't seem to be a 'set' address to send to & wasn't sure? will send to alex lyons when i figure out how to sort out preliminary letter? Thanks again!
  14. Hi all, I'm at step 2 of the process, sending prelim letter. I have looked at the banks forum but there's loads of different ones, can someone tell me which address to send it to? Are some better than others? Does your location determine where you send it to? or do i just send it to my local branch? Or do i send it here?: Mr Alex Lyons Data Protection Manager Retail Regulatory Risk 2nd Floor Business House B GOGARBUREN P.O.Box 1000 EDINBURGH EH12 1HQ Thanks in advance for any help! T;)
