Hi there. My friend has a washing machine from Curry's which he owned for 3 years. He was given it by his friend, and has the receipt. Curry's contacted the original owner to confirm that he gave it to him. He paid £260 initially for the machine brand new from Curry's.
The issue is it developed a major fault recently and contacted Curry's under the consumer rights act, fit for purpose etc
They said as he has had it for 3 years, they will offer £75 as goodwill. He then has asked for a repair, replacement, or refund. They then said he did not purchase it, and he has no rights under consumer rights, and he is just getting helped under goodwill.
Is he entitled to full refund or a replacement, or is £75 OK? It seems Curry's trying their best not to repair or refund? He asked them for £150 as a settlement, but they are not giving more than £75.
What are his rights?
Thank you
