  1. Hello! To close this case, I wrote my letter and got fined £80 plus the train fare for that trip. What a relief it was but I'll make sure it doesn't happen again in the future! Thank you for all your time and advice. Elaine
  2. Hi, Thank you for your reply. This is what I wrote: "On Monday 8th September 2014, I was rushing for the train. I thought I could buy a ticket on the train as the train was due as I went to the station but the conductor didn't come round. I always buy a ticket for my train journey and had the fare in my hand. I will allow sufficient time to buy my ticket in the future." How does that sound? Thanks again for your help! Elaine
  3. Hi, Got my letter today. It says: "On Monday 8th September 2014 you were spoken to by an authorised member of staff in relation to an alleged contravention of Railway Regulations. An evidential report has been submitted to this office regarding this incident. Before the company proceeds further with its investigations in respect of this matter, we would like to give you the opportunity of responding with your explanation concerning it. Please complete the bottom section of this letter and if you wish to make any comments, please do so on the reverse. Only written mitigation will be accepted. As you will appreciate, this is a serious incident; therefore it is imperative that you respond as soon as possible to ascertain the full facts in this matter. Failure to respond to this reasonable request within 14 days of the date of this letter will result in legal action being taken (Regulations of Railway act and railway byelaws apply) Should legal proceedings be invoked, in addiction to any fines imposed by the courts there will be an application for a minimum of £150 as a contribution to our costs. Offences of this nature are recordable and should you be convicted you will receive a criminal record." How would you recommend replying? Thank you. Elaine
  4. Hmmm. Seems like every case is different. But has anyone any advice on how to reply to the letter? I'll post it on here when it arrives. I can't believe how worried I am over this!!!! Thank you again.
  5. I was travelling by Northern Rail between Lancaster and Bare Lane station. If I asked to pay an administrative penalty for their costs and the fare due within 21 days will they close the case? I'm still been scaring myself reading forums and things like £1000 fines and prosecution. Please advice, thank you! Elaine
  6. Thank you for your replies and welcome to this forum. I am still worried as this is the first time and I would never dream of avoiding to pay for my journeys! Is there a normal procedure and consequence for a case similar to mine? Elaine
  7. Hi there, I have recently been stopped and cautioned by a Revenue Protection Officer at an un-manned train station. I usually buy a ticket whenever I travel on public transport. This time, however, I had got on a train at a manned station in a rush. I had my money ready to pay the fare but since no conductor passed on the train I couldn't purchase a ticket. I still had the money in my hand when I was stopped by the officer when I got off the train so it was clear I had the intention of paying the fare. After I gave the officer my details he told me I would receive a letter in a few weeks time asking me to pay the fare. However, after reading the previous thread and the replies I am now worried about the consequences. I understand it is a criminal offence but does every offender get convicted or can it be dealt with simply through a fine? Thank you for your reply. Elaine
