  1. I do not pay my TV licence and I have never had a letter nor have I ever had someone come over to my house to "investigate" me. I think the TV licence is a ridiculous idea, not to mention expensive. The reason I do not pay my TV licence is I do not watch live TV because it's all a load of old crap. I have better things to be doing than watching depressing Eastenders and on the extremely odd occasion I do want to watch Frozen Planet or something I can access it and stream it from elsewhere. Why pay for something I very rarely use...
  2. Thankfully the tyres were the right ones. Maybe I should spend more on tyres haha! And thanks for pointing that out Dragonfly1967 but I have already sent it! I read it back to myself loads and I got someone else to proof read it and we both missed it! Whoops! I'm sure they'll be too stupid to realise anyway
  3. Thanks for the formatting! I also suspect they swapped my front tyres with worn ones as I had both front tyres replaced with brand new ones 10 months ago. I really don't see how one of them could have already worn down so much. Gotta try and locate my invoice from when I had them replaced, it says the brand of tyres I had put on on there.
  4. It's a long explanation so here is a copy of the e-mail I have just sent to their customer services department... It's quite long lol!! To whom it may concern, I am writing to complain about the disgusting service I received and the blatant disregard for human safety I experienced after having my car serviced at the Kwik Fit branch at Agar Road, Illogan Highway, Redruth, Cornwall, TR15 3ED. I booked online and paid in advance to have my car (a 1.4 16V Renault Clio) in for a full service on Thursday 28th August 2014. It cost me £165. I dropped my car off as requested (with an empty screen wash reservoir – it had run out on the way to work) at 8.30 am. When I dropped it off I was asked if there were any known faults with the car which there were. I explained that the ‘service’ and ‘air bag’ lights turned on intermittently and also that there was a noise coming from what sounded like my exhaust – potentially a hole or similar – but as I am not a mechanic I could not be sure what it was.In the afternoon I spoke to one of your employees on the phone (unfortunately I did not catch his name) who said that there were issues with my car but he could not elaborate further as he did not do the service and the person who had done had "popped out for a few minutes". I was told he would call me back when he returned. Nearly half an hour later the person who had done my service called (I do not know his name either!) and explained the issues with my car. We agreed to discuss the matter further in person when I went to pick it up. I arrived to pick my car up after I finished work (I work just around the corner) at 5.20 pm. My car was still in bits. Conveniently this meant that the guys could show me exactly what was wrong with my car "for my own piece of mind". The thing is, as I have already said, I am not a mechanic so I had no idea what I was looking at. I looked anyway and then waited in the waiting room for my car to be put back together. When it was ready I was told that "All the work can be done for £600" and that I should look to get the work done as soon as I could. I was also told the noise I could hear was a rusted and loose exhaust clip. The following was what was written on my full service report which I had to ask for a copy of, I wasn’t offered it nor was I offered an itemised quote for the work that needed doing. I am assuming as this totals only £439.90 and I was quoted £600 for everything then it is inclusive of parts and labour only: •Near side brake light bulb £3.95 •Near side CV boot £74.95 •Near side and off side anti roll bar bush £59.75 •Exhaust clamp – no price given •Off side front tyre £57.50 •Brake fluid £39.95 •Rear wheel cylinders - £76.96 •Rear brake shoes - £102.06 •Brake fitting kit - £24.78 I laughed and said I could do the bulb myself as they are ridiculously simple to change to which I was told "if you get the bulb don’t worry, come back here and we will change it for free!". I laughed this off and said I would be in contact to arrange the repairs. If only I knew at that point why they were to keen for me not to do it myself! I went to Halfords immediately after and purchased a brake light bulb. I got home and asked my partner to come out and press the brake pedal just to make sure I was changing the correct one. But to my surprise all my lights were working! Every single one! Now I know why they didn’t want me to do it myself – because they didn’t want me to know that it didn’t actually need doing! Also a bird very kindly decided to poo on my windscreen on the drive home. Couldn’t wash it off though – my screenwash was still empty! Isn’t that an MOT failure... These two instances along with the too-convenient "peace of mind" demonstration started niggling at me that something was amiss. I know I am female, and I know I am not a mechanic, but I’m not stupid. So the next day in work I had a chat with a colleague (who has a garage of his own) about my experience so far and shown him the service report. Not one to mince his words he told me exactly what Kwik Fit’s reputation was like followed by amazement at the grossly inflated quote I was given. He booked my car in at his garage for Saturday 6th August and ordered my parts. My tyre was replaced by Tyrefinders two days after the service.I took my car in and my colleague, James, immediately said "you need a wheel bearing changed" saying that that was the reason for the loud noise I could hear! Funny that, I thought it was an exhaust clip?! I left my car there and let him take a proper look before giving me a definite diagnosis. My car was there for no longer than an hour and a half before I received a phone call. This is what I was told on the phone: •Yes, the CV boot does need changing. •Only one rear wheel cylinder needed changing - not two •Neither anti roll bar bushes needed replacing •There was nothing wrong with the exhaust clamp •The brake fluid was fine •The brake shoes were in great condition, aside from needing a quick clean •The brake fitting kit does not need replacing What I wasn’t particularly surprised to hear after all of that was that the noise I heard, and specifically pointed out to your supposed "specialists", was as he predicted – the near side rear wheel bearing. In fact James wasn’t too sure on how my car was still functioning properly it was that damaged. I am totally amazed by the blatant attempt to rip me off. One can only assume that they seen me, a young woman, and thought they could milk me for as much money as they could. Well I’m terribly sorry but they’ve targeted the wrong woman. A quick calculation shows that I was quoted for approximately £321.55 (£267.97 plus 20% VAT) of unnecessary work. However what is most staggering is the rear wheel bearing. I pointed out to the guys that I was hearing a noise which, considering they are supposedly "specialists", they should have been able to guess could have potentially been the problem without even looking. Secondly a rear wheel bearing check is apparently one of the "essential checks" of a full service. This means they either a) didn’t bother to check it at all or b) knew about it and didn’t bother to tell me. Either way I was driving around with a severely damaged rear wheel bearing for over a week after my service. I drive 20 miles to work and back a day along small Cornish roads with a limit of 60 mph. I am fully aware of, and I sincerely hope that you are too, the seriousness of driving with a defective wheel bearing. Losing control of my vehicle at 60 mph and crashing into a Cornish hedge would not only potentially kill me but put other road users at serious danger too. The complete lack of disregard for safety is just astonishing. I fully expect compensation for the "full service" that I paid for but most definitely did not receive. I also expect some compensation for the fact that I could have become seriously injured, or worse, due to the incompetence and sheer idiocy of your staff. To quote your website "Kwik Fit are experts in automotive parts repair including tyres, brakes, exhausts, MoT testing, car servicing and air conditioning recharge". I’m not sure about experts as the way I see it you’re nothing but charlatans!!! Finally I really hope that you’ll have a word with your employees about trying to fleece people out of money. It’s disgusting and abhorrent behaviour and will not be tolerated. I did not catch the names of any of the people I dealt with but if it’s of any help to try and establish who I spoke to the guy who done my service was a stocky guy with chest tattoos visible above his t-shirt line. Not only have you lost my custom but you’ve also lost the custom of all my friends, family and colleagues. I think it goes without saying that I will also be in contact with Trading Standards and the BBC’s Watchdog. I’m sure local media would love to hear about this too!
