I have been paying child maintenance since 1999 ( old scheme rules ) , anyway i was having a sort out in my home & came across a booklet from the CSA explaining everything i needed to know ,
well included in the assessment is a carer allowance which i never knew about " an extra amount based on the age of the youngest child for whom child maintenance is needed. This is known as a carer allowance. This is not maintenance for the children, but we include it because the children need to be cared for by an adult.
This carer allowance is reduced by 25% if the youngest child is 11, 12 or 13, or by 50% if the youngest child is 14 or 15. The carer allowance ends when the youngest child is 16" fair enough no problem with that , well as my son is now almost 17 i contacted the CSA to find out if this was still the case & was told it was & would be reassessed , fine until i got my assessment & the carer allowance only ended from the date i contacted them , should i not be entitled to have it backdated from when he turned 16 ?
My last assessment before this my payments increased , no probs but was going to be backdated , i got my reassessment letter in the August filled everything in & sent wage slips etc promptly to be told the new payments would be backdated to March as that is when they started looking into my assessment ????
Surely if they can backdate increases then i should be entitled to be backdated for over payments , if i had never come across that booklet i would never had known about the carer allowance
