  2. I complained to Abbey last year about the charges on two accounts, got the usual letters back from them but never followed it up as I was waiting for the court case to finish hoping for a good result. So where does this leave me now? Shall I start from the begining? I also have charges from a now closed HSBC account, which I sucsessfully claimed charges back from about four years ago. the account was closed about three years ago with more charges can I still claim them back? It all seems a bit confusing at the moment, any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  3. I was wondering if we could we try to get other companies to bully banks over these charges, for example I am so fed up with these charges I'm canceling all but a couple of DD's (mortgage, council tax). The problem was when I rang Virgin media they wanting to charge me an extra fiver a month to pay via internet bank transfer, so I canceled it telling them the reason was the bank charges and the fiver for nothing. Surely if enough people were to do this they would put pressure on the banks.
  4. Our joint account was closed by HSBC about two years ago and the outstanding balance sent to a debt collection agency. As this balance was 90 percent charges would I still be able to claim them back? Also i have been wondering if after the test case win, we will be able to sue the banks for the stress caused by these charges and loss of earnings (no money for diesel, things were tight when the kids were young but they did'nt care), or any other thing's caused by these excessive charges. Thanks...

  10. I’m just about to start two claims against the Grabby my first one was posted yesterday for one account about six years ago, then today my third statement from my new joint account came through with charges of £345 for last month, so another letter is on its way tonight. I’m going to put a clause in the letter stating that "I also require that you do not charge me these over exaggerated charges in the future." Has anyone else tried this with any success?
  11. GREAT NEWS!!!!! After weeks of letter sending and filling out forms I received a letter today from DG solicitors stating the following: We are instructed by HSBC plc in respect of the claim you have recently issued. HSBC is entirely confident that its charges are reasonable, are properly and fully disclosed in its terms and conditions, and that it would successfully resist any challenge in the courts in relation to them. HSBC is, however, mindful of the management time and irrecoverable legal costs associated with litigation in the small claims regime. For those commercial reasons alone, and without any admission of liability whatsoever, HSBC is prepared to make a payment to you in the sum of 1687.44 representing the charges applied in full and final settlement of this matter. HSBC does, reasonably, require your confirmation that you will treat this payment as confidential. If you accept this proposal please sign and return the enclosed copy of this letter to me and I will arrange for a refund to be made to you. Yours faithfully DG Solicitors This is very good news apart from the confidentiality part, this sounds like blackmail to me. Notice the word reasonably what does that mean? How far can I take it? My wife has told me to just sign it and get the money back but I don’t like being told to shut up.

  13. Does anybody know how to fill in the bit that says "date when the money became owed to you" and "the date you are issuing the claim" as the money has built up over the past 6 years. The claimant claims interest under section 69 of the County Courts Act 1984 at the rate of 8% a year from {date when the money became owed to you} to {the date you are issuing the claim} of £ {put the amount} and also interest at the same rate up to the date of judgment or earlier payment at a daily rate of {enter the daily rate of interest}.
