  1. Looking for any help at all.... I lost my job around 4 months ago and have been struggling to make ends meet ever since, I am already in rent arrears and now I cannot afford to pay any of my rent this month. I have seen that for now my only option is too be back in with my mother but I can't afford to pay this months rent and bills let alone this month and next if I have to serve my notice period. What can I do? Thanks
  2. Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me. A few weeks ago a received a letter from a debt collection agency for a t-mobile contract from 2009, saying I owe them a whopping £700!!!! I was completely shocked by this and wrote them a letter requesting proof that that phone was mine and that I wanted to see the phone contract with my signature on it. They have written back saying that because it is a phone contract they do not need a signed agreement but will write to tmobile to see what information they have and will send it on to me when they get it. I did have a t-mobile contract in 2009 and cancelled the contract early as the phone was stolen and I wanted to take out a new contract. The final bill was around £180 and I paid it in full in cash at the bank. I know everyone will tell me I am stupid for not keeping proof of this but it was 4 years ago and I didn't realise at the time that anything like this would ever happen. I know 100% that I paid the original bill and that is the only t-mobile contract I have ever owned but I don't even remember the mobile phone number so can't even be sure that it's the same contract they are claiming I owe £700 on. They have told me it's now on my credit file and that has really annoyed me, I just don't know what to do as I have no proof that it was paid when originally due. Since writing to them, they have sent me another letter for a contract with Three from 2008 where they want to charge me £300. I did have a contract with Three and know what debt they are talking about, but I don't owe this money. I cancelled the contract with Three when it had run out and there was nothing to pay at the end as the contract had finished, I sent off my written request to cancel the contract as I was required to back then and sent it recorded delivery and had the proof that it had been received. I had a call from Three a few days later to confirm that it had been cancelled, however they kept billing me. I wasn't using the phone as I had taken out a new contract and called Three several times only to be passed around to different people, and was told that I would need to send proof that I had cancelled the contract, this went on for several months and is the reason i will NEVER take out another contract the Three. In the end they sold the debt to a collection agency, when they contact me I sent them all the proof that I had, the original letter to three and proof it had been received, and then the emails I had sent them showing that it had been cancelled. The debt collection agency agreed that I didn't have to pay and I never heard from them again.. .. until now!!! I am at a loss as to what to do, please has anyone got any advice at all? Thank you.
  3. Hi, About 2 months ago I bought a musical keyboard for my little boy from argos. After a couple of weeks some of the keys didn't make any noise when being pressed but when I took it back the lady told me I needed proof of purchase to exchange it. I looked everywhere for the receipt but couldn't find it but took a friends advice to just go in and buy a new one, then take the broken one back with the receipt for the new one I'd just bought. I know this was a bit cheeky but I wasn't trying to defraud them, I had bought from argos originally and just wanted to exchange some clearly faulty goods. I did this and worked fine, however the new keyboard has now broken (same problem again). I think it's obviously a common fault and would just like to exchange for a different item so as not to have this happen again. Unfortunately now I have no proof of purchase but have seen online that you can use a bank statement as proof, would I be able to do this or would it come up that the item has already been returned? What would you think is my best course of action? Thanks, Rachael
  4. Yes I returned the amended move in report and was told they had received it but now apparently they have no knowledge of it. I had no permission for shelving, the match was very good but not perfect, however like I said, the walls were not perfect when I moved in.
  5. I moved into a privately rented house that is managed by a letting agents on 01.02.2012. When I first went to view the house it was in a bad way, it needed to be re-decorated throughout and the carpets were filthy. The agents explained that the work was due to be done but just hadn't started yet. Despite the property not looking its best I decided to take as I knew that it would be sorted out. When I moved in things weren't perfect, it had been painted throughout but wasn't a great job (patchy walls, odd marks here and there) and the carpets had been cleaned however were still very marked and stained. I accepted this as with a rental property you are never going to get perfect however I noted these down on the itinerary I was given that stated that walls were "immaculate" and carpets were "clean throughout" and posted it back to the agents the next day (it said to be returned within 7 days). There were quite a few things on the itinerary that were wrong and I corrected, such as the light fitting in the living room that was stated as "working" was actually just dangling there, not attached to any wires or the ceiling so clearly didn't work and curtain rails and a shower rail that were hanging off the walls. I called a week later to check that they had received my updated itinerary and one of the agents told me they had it. Anyway, I moved out on 25.04.2013, while I was there I put up some shelves in the living room and the odd picture here and there, and when I moved out, i filled, sanded and painted the marked areas using the paint that had been used used to paint the house in the first place that had been left in the garage. Although this wasn't left in perfect condition, it wasn't prefect to begin with and matched up very well. I also paid to have the carpets cleaned by a cleaning company and the bathrooms steam cleaned as I wanted to leave the property in a good condition. The carpets didn't come up immaculate but that was because they were marked and stained when I moved in, I couldn't make them any better than they were when I arrived. A few days before I moved out, a lady from the agents came round to have a check and tell me what needed doing, but she only had a copy of the original itinerary not the one I had posted them, she said she would check when she got back to the office for the one I had sent in, but called me the next day to say they couldn't find it I hadn't heard anything from the agents until this week when I called on Monday to find out why I hadn't heard about having my bond (£600) returned, I was told someone would get in touch with me as they were still liaising with the LL. Today the agents left a message on my phone that said due to having to have the carpets cleaned and walls repainted as they were all "immaculate" when I moved in, they would be deducting £380 from my bond to pay for these repairs. I provided them with a receipt to show I'd had the carpets cleaned and they said it wasn't good enough! The message said if I accepted this then they could process everything on Monday and contact the DPS for return of the money or I could dispute the deductions but then in their words "this would be time consuming and obviously it will be a long time before any money is returned". I don't know what to do now, I left the property in a better condition than when I moved in (I don't think the oven had ever been cleaned, and I had fixed all the broken curtain rails and replaced the shower curtain rail that was broken. It was much cleaner than when we moved in and the walls looked just as good as when I rented it. What can I do?! Is there anything? Or should I just be grateful I'm getting anything back at all?? Any help at all would be appreciated! Thank you!
  6. Hi, Not sure if I'm posting in the right place here but I need some advice with catalogue debt. I have recently received 3 letters from lowell finance saying that I owe money for 3 separate catalogue debts, 2 with shop direct and 1 with JD Williams. But I never took these out! I recently opened a credit account with Fashion World just so that I could get the 10% off and have since payed this off in full as I don't want to build up debts and I'm assuming that's how they have found me to send me these letters. The debt is from my previous address at University and I don't know who has taken them out but I wasn't even living there when the items were delivered. It's a problem for me though as I can't prove this, I found out that I was 5 months pregnant in early April of 2011 and moved home however my lease wasn't up until the end of June. I had already payed my rent for that term that covered me up until the end of my tenancy and just wanted to move home as I had decided to take a break from Uni to concentrate on the baby and sorting everything out. I have since moved in with my boyfriend and we have been living together for over a year now and I have had no letters from any debt companies until I opened the Fashion World account. Now I don't know what to do, I wasn't living at the address at the time but my tenancy agreement didn't end until the end of June and the items were delivered before that. Is there anything I can do?? The debts mount up to well over £1000 and I don't want to be paying that back but they are threatening to take me to court and obviously I don't want that and I'm worried about any affect this is going to have on my credit rating. Thanks for any advice you can give, Rachael
