  1. Hi I've decided to lodge the cheque and send a letter to mbna telling them I'm accepting their cheque as a partial refund. So my question is, can anyone advise how to word the letter? Complaining to these people makes me nervous and I want to make sure I get it right.. Cheeky request, I know. Thanks so much
  2. Thanks ken100464. I have been through your thread now and although I'm struggling to understand some of the terms, I'm pretty sure that I've been diddled too. My question is what to do now. If I bank the cheque, does that mean I am accepting it as final settlement? Having received the calculation breakdown, where to I go from here? Any advice seriously appreciated. Without this group I couldn't have got even this far so thanks to all for your help and posts.
  3. Hi I have now received MBNA's calculation spreadsheet and wondered if someone would very briefly cast their eyes over it to see if it appears ok. All the payment amounts and balances correspond to my statements so I think its all ok but would just appreciate a quick check before I lodge the refund! Thanks for all the help. 4. I think in that case I have used the correct spreadsheet. I will start it again though to make sure I've done it right. I did pay off the balance on the account from time to time so maybe I need to start a new one after each time I paid it off? I have all of the statements. "abd will need to supply you with an appropriate written confirmation of this when they settle" - I have actually received their cheque in the post and there was no mention of the witholding tax in the accompanying letter. SHould I also ask for some kind of confirmation of this when I request the breakdown do you think? Again, I appreciate the advice.
  5. Hi Thank you for replying. Yes its for credit card ppi. From their letter: "Total amount of PPI premiums charged since sale date = 924.61 Total amount of assoicated interest = 105.88 Applicable 8% gross interest* = 763.19 Less UK witholding tax* = 152.64 Total amount payable = 1641.04 * UK witholding tax of £152.64 has been dedulcted from the 8% gross interest amount. You may need to inform HMRC of this amount." I tried several different ways of calculating with some outrageous results(!) until I discovered a super helpful spreadsheet on this forum and even then it seems to be around £250 short. I'm not sure which one I used as its on my home computer but it was for credit card ppi. Thanks so much.
  6. Hi I've recently received a ppi refund from MBNA. Can anyone tell me what exactly I need to ask mbna for when I request a breakdown of their calculations? I have tried to do the calculations myself and I think that they may have come up short of what the refund should be (although I am quite stupid when it comes to applying interest so I have probably got it wrong). I have been reading through some threads about this on here though and others seem to have had similar issues. Also, they have deducted "UK witholding tax". Please could someone explain what that is? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!
