Do not pay these vultures! I notice on your original post that you were under the age of 18 at the time of the incident. Even more reason to not pay RLP (as if more reasons were ever needed). You were classed as a minor when you shoplifted so they shouldn't be writing to you at all. It's absolute 100% harassment. If I was to write to you and say "hiya, I've been told you shoplifted from Primark. Pay me £130 now." you'd tell me where to go, wouldn't you! RLP are no different. Don't give in.

Woah, TK Maxx contacted your friends work and told them what happened? Was that on an official capacity or was it store security chatting amongst themselves and somehow your friends employer became aware....? Either way, that is completely out of order. I would be seeking legal advice regarding that. Does your friend work for TK Maxx...? That's the only reasonable explanation I can think of for them doing that. The advice remains the same. Ignore RLP. The letters do get worse before they get better. If your friend is on the 3rd letter I'll bet it's the big 3/4pager. If the goods were recovered in a saleable condition then no loss has been suffered by the store. If the store wanted to pursue your friend, the police would've been involved - but they haven't been and now cannot be involved at all. So your friend has no worries there. RLP will eventually pass your friends details onto a debt collection agency. This is the stage that I am at. Again, ignore. They are NOT bailiffs and no one will come to his door. Tell your friend to learn from his error of judgement and move on. Good luck xx

I personally wouldn't bother. Maintain your silence. They're not worth the price of a stamp.

I haven't had any threat of bailiff action. If you mean the DCA then I'm just ignoring them. I've also reported them to the OFT.

Correct. I haven't paid them a penny or even been in contact with them. I have completely ignored them.

There's definitely no indication of who sent the letter on the outside of the envelope. Apart from an obscure PO box number on the rear. Some of their letters make an almighty racket when they come through the letterbox, they're like a copy of War and Peace. My "incident" happened 18 months ago and I've only recently stopped receiving letters from these clowns, so be aware that you're probably in this for the long haul. I'm now receiving letters from a DCA instead who I've reported to the OFT for trying to recover a debt that has never existed. Hello Zinc Group/JB Debt Recovery! Don't let this bring you down. Learn from your mistake and move on. Do NOT pay rlp. Take care.

Talking from personal experience, I'm 18 months down the line and although I no longer receive letters from RLP, I now receive letters from a DCA! Be strong when the letters come through your door. I used to dread the postman coming but I've armed myself with knowledge from here and the CAB. I know my rights and know that what they're doing is wrong. I've reported the DCA in question to the OFT for attempting to recover a debt that doesn't exist. I have made absolutely nil contact with either RLP or the DCA. You have been dealt with by the police, take it as a lesson learned. But don't let some parallel "legal" system try to punish you twice. I would assume that people do not update their threads as the letters have stopped and/or nothing else has happened. All the best

Terrible grammar in that letter. One would assume that they just copy and paste the same old drivel in every letter they send. They pick and choose which paragraphs to insert? Surely not! The Association of Chief Police Officers actually requested RLP to take down a reference they made to the ACPO on their website. Hilarious. RLP have nothing to do with ACPO. Fear not. If they pass your case onto a 3rd party then good. If this 3rd party debt collector contact you they will be in breach of their regulations for pursuing a non-existent debt (a speculative invoice). Write them a quick note saying the above and they'll go away.

I'd imagine all the info the store have on you will be passed to RLP. That includes both addresses. They'll probably write to both? I definitely do not condone shoplifting but neither do I support RLP and their business practices. Stay away from TK Maxx, why would you even want to go back there? Learn from it and move on Best of luck!
