  1. Now got internet. I run AVG plus normal Microsoft products so will leave well alone for the minute. Let everything settle down. Replying to you through my BT email box on the laptop
  2. Found it. Did as you suggested and it is working. Just got to get the internet comnnection sorted now. Thanks for that. Until the next time!!
  3. Took the battery out but there is no removable rear panel and therefore the silver battery is not visible. It must be within the main body of the laptop but despite taking out the hard-drive and the other large removable panel I still could not see it
  4. Thanks for that - anything is worth a try. not tonight but will let you know what happens
  5. I did indeed and the response from him has resulted in my decision already stated. As explained to him I have already dealt with his organisation in the past over this laptop when under warranty and their service then was dire. Nothing has persuaded me that anything has changed except that this time they want £60.00!
  6. Doesn't make any difference - they still want £60.00 to look at it and as I have explained, more than once, to PC World, I don't trust them to come up with an answer. Suggestion - independant examination which will cost me more cash. So I have a piece of equipmenmt 2 1/2 years old (and which cost £400.00) which has had a new motherboard and now needs a further £60.00 minimum spent to rectify - I don't think so. Just won't purchase from them again!
  7. I purchased the above in June 2009 at a cost of just on £400.00. Almost exactly 12 months later it died. As there were 2 days to go before the warranty expired PC World had to repair it FOC. This turned out to be the motherboard. In the process they wiped the hard-drive and it was returned to me in a non-operational state. Now 18 months later it has died again. This time PC World, or the Tech Guys, or whatever they are called want £60.00 up front to look at it before even considering a repair cost. I say it is not fit for purpose under the sale of goods act. I fear that their process will be purely one of self-regulation and that as I had to buy a new power pack (not of Advent make but compatible) because the original one failed (Xmas 2011) and my local IT man has accessed the hard-drive to get a back-up copy they will say it is my fault and nothing to do with them. In any event I have no faith in them coming up with a fair solution. Any ideas? I should add my problems are compounded by living in France!
