  1. Thank you for your message honey56. No I didn't get anywhere with my letters to the CEO. With the first one they just referred me back to my original claim and the second one they ignored completely even though I put Private and Confidential on the letter and envelope and sent it by registered mail. Its some time ago now so don't know if its worth pursuing. I'm cross about it all as they are the only financial institution that refused me compensation on the grounds that they weren't regulated pre 2001. I took out my credit card with them in 1997, so if your claim dates from 2001 or later you may have more luck. Perhaps we should get together and make a concerted action against Citi.
  2. To the old rouge Hi again. I' wrote a second time to Citi CEO on 20 Jan 2015, letter marked private and confidential and sent recorded delivery but have received no reply. I think my letter has just been ignored this time. Question is where do I go from here? If I take this to court how much will it cost and is it worth the expense and stress when the outcome is uncertain. Would welcome any advice.
  3. Yes I want to see it through. I'll write once again to the CEO as you suggested but if that's turned down and the only alternative is going to court I'm concerned as to how much that is likely to cost and how long it will take.
  4. Thank you to both hillards and theoldrouge for your replies and sorry its taken so long to get back to you - Christmas got in the way. I shall try once more to write to the CEO of CitiFinancialEurope as suggested but I'm doubtful that the result will turn out any different. Thank you for all your help so far. Its been immensely useful. I shall get back to you once I've heard back from Citi. I still don't understand how they can get away with not paying compensation for any claims predating 2001, indeed how as a major bank with an international reputation and operations they were able to sell PPI insurance when they weren't regulated and seemingly didn't belong to any voluntary schemes.
  5. Hi, Just to say I'm in the same boat as you. My claim against The Associates/Citi card for PPI was with the FOS for 2 years and then I was told by the adjudicator that they couldn't consider my complaint because CitiFinancialEurope (the Associates was a trading name for this) was not regulated prior to 2001 and was not a member of any scheme when the insurance policy was sold in 1997and therefore the FOS is not allowed to consider the complaint . As you can imagine I was fairly angry about this having waited for so long. I asked if the complaint could be referred to the ombudsman but was told that there wouldn't be any point as he/she would only be able to decide whether the adjudicator had given me the right information, not consider the case from any other point of view. I then wrote to the CEO of CitiEurope on excellent and helpful advice given in this forum and my letter was completely ignored and simply sent on to Opus who had already turned down my complaint. So the whole thing is simply hopeless despite the fact that I have all the necessary information - statements, premiums paid, copy of original agreement form etc needed to make a claim. All my other PPI complaints with other banks and financial institutions have been successful with full compensation paid and no hassles but Citi is the one exception. I have been advised to write to the CEO a second time and if that fails to go to court but I'm not sure I have the fight left in me to do that . Perhaps we should get together and start a concerted action against Citi with others in the same boat. It makes me very angry that Citi should be about the only bank to get away with misselling PPI and I'm astounded that they were able to sell insurance without regulation, without belonging to any kind of scheme such as the FOS pre 2001 and without having to adhere to any kind of professional code of conduct such as the GISC and ABI codes. Sorry to be so negative but this is my experience of Citi. Let me know how you get on.
  6. To oldrouge and hillards Well, my letter and complaint to the Citi CEO seems to failed miserably. I sent the letter 1st class recorded delivery and wondered why there was no indication that it had been signed for ie delivered. Seems it wasn't even seen by the CEO. I just received a standard letter from Citi saying that as the account is now owned by Opus the complaint has been forwarded to them. They also state that if you refer the complaint to the FOS they won't be able to do anything about it as Citi was not a member of one of the old ombudsman schemes before 2001 (all of which I knew already). Having spent 2 years fruitlessly pursuing the complaint with Opus and then the FOS I feel angry that Citi can get away with this particularly as all the other banks and financial institutions I've had dealings with have all compensated me for misselling PPI. Do you think it's worth contacting the FCA on this?
  7. Many thanks for that information. I'll let you know how I get on.
  8. Many thanks to hillards, dx and theoldrouge for all your help. Thanks to you I now know much more about Excel and how to work out charges and interest rates. Have now managed to work out compound interest and am in the process of composing a letter to Citi. I spent over 2 years waiting for a response to this claim from the FOS with no positive result, so am going directly to Citi. I'll let you know how I get on.
  9. I have a spreadsheet with the amounts and dates of PPI paid plus interest rate plus date PPI premiums ended. Not sure how I load this so you can see it. Thanks for getting back so quickly.
  10. To Hillards and the Oldrouge - thanks for all the advice. Just one question for the oldrouge - to which address did you send your letter of complaint to the CEO of Citi Europe? I'm still grappling with the spreadsheets and havn't yet been able to work out the compound interest on my PPI payments accurately or the simple interest of 8%. Should I just send an approximate claim and leave it to Citi to work out the sums involved? Not sure where to go from here.
  11. Thanks. When you say up to account closure I presume you mean up to the date I cancelled the PPI? Still having problems downloading the statinsheet even though we have Excel 2007. Have others had this problem? Thanks anyway for all your help so far, also thanks to Hillards.
  12. Have now managed to open the FosC1Sheet and have worked out the compound interest. One question? I stopped paying the PPI premium in March 2006, so do I calculate the interest up until that date or up until today's date? I assume the former but perhaps you could clarify. Thanks
  13. Have downloaded Open Office and have Excel 2007 but the spreadsheets just refuse to open. Very frustrating as have spent considerable time on this today so far. Don't know what I'm doing wrong.
  14. Hillards and theoldrouge Many thanks to both of you for the advice. I've tried to open the FosRunningPPI sheet and the FosCI sheet but they just won't open or be saved. We have Excel 7 on our computer. I'll keep trying but don't know what to do otherwise. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks.
