  1. Hi.. I got into some trouble with santander recently, and to cut a long story short. Bounced overdrafts I didn't agree to put me in -figures I disagreed to pay because I didnt agree to direct debits, santa added more charges on... I have just posted this letter. Can anyone here please tell me what you think the outcome will likely be? Dear Sir/Madam Whilst attempting to get finance for a new car online, I was told I was ineligible, I went onto Equifax and I checked my credit score, to find that the reason for my poor credit rating was because of the disputes of charged over my account between Santander and myself. I had made some test purchases on eBay and for some unknown reason PayPal placed them as direct debits on my account. I cancelled the purchases as they were only tests, but the direct debits stayed. Of course, they bounced and I got stung. I received many letters from yourselves telling me how the amount would only go up, which made me even more adamant I would not pay anything, as it was not my fault PayPal placed direct debits on my account when they said that they don’t use direct debits for payment. I also felt that as a new account with under £5 balance, when over £6000 of direct debits were earmarked to leave, that your fraud team should have contacted me, in which case I would have told you that I did not agree to any direct debits to be placed on my account. I explained this in a telephone conversation with one of your representatives, and he agreed with me and we settled on me paying £200, with my first payment due next month. I am now enquiring as to if a gesture of goodwill would be in order to wipe this from my credit report once paid. I feel that we all made mistakes, and that I have certainly learned from mine, however I am 19 and I need to be able to start making a life for myself and this is very difficult when I appear to not pay people back (I would like to add that, apart from my issues with Santander my credit record is unblemished) and the reasons for me not paying you anything were not due to financial burden, but because I was disputing charges. As no-one lost money, or received any money or goods, I have admitted my faults and Santander admitted theirs, I hope that once I have paid the £200 I have agreed we can put or issues away and I can leave this with new knowledge, and safe knowing I can also obtain credit in the future. I look forward to your response. Yours truly BITEME!
  2. Maybe the T&C's do require it, but when does anybody read 62 pages of legal jargon? I never actually paid for anything or recieved anything through that account anyway. I doubt paypal would care, they have about as much legal power as my non existant dog. But it definately went through as direct debits. I have no idea why, but it did.
  3. I was only using a fake name as the name on the account, it wasn't fraud. All the other details were correct, I just didnt want people finding my name out through paypal. Paypal did place it as a direct debit. Thats why I got chargebacks, I have no idea why it went as a dd, as I have used paypal for years, and if I didn't have the moeny for something, it wouldn't go through. But this time it tried to go through, I cancelled them (obviously) but it still sat on my bank account as direct debits.
  4. Hi, back in Janurary I opened a paypal account. I noticed for some reason that very small amounts appeared to go through when I didnt have any money in the account. I did some test auctions and bidded on stuff that was about £6000 to see if that went through, then I cancelled the transaction. What I didn't know was that the reason the payments were going through is becuase paypal was placing them as direct debits on my account (something they said they never do), so when they tried to clear, I got stung. £400 in charges and 6months of ignoring default notices later, I find that it has gone on my credit rating ( I negotiated to pay £200 back to Santander, I said their fraud dept. should have called me to ask why a brand new account had over £6k of DD's earmarked. They agreed and we settled on paying back half, seeing as no one lost any money) anyway, I phoned paypal and they said because I used a fake name on the paypal account, they wont speak to me under the data protection act (so nice of them to protect the data of the ficticious(!)) I used my real address and card info, but just a different name on the account. Now they don't want to know. What do I do now? I rang santa back up, but the lady transferred my call to an office that was closed. I want to know how to get this taken off my credit file. I want a new car! For gods sake I am 19 years old. I get screwed over by 2 jerk companies and now I can't borrow anything!:mad2::mad2:
  5. I'm not very familiar with insurance... I'm 18 and live with my parents. Doubt they would let me claim anything on their insurance.
  6. Hi, I rented a camera and a lens from a hire company on the net. My friend has his own camera, but really wanted to use the lens, so I said I would bring it over to him. I had the lens in my bag. I was at the bus station, and I put my bag down and was rolling a cigarette. That was the last time I saw it, I think it was stolen. I called the bus company and they said nothing has been found. What happens now? I have no way I can pay back for the lens, which costs as much as the camera (almost £1000) any advice?
  7. The charges were for bounced overdraft fees... then I told santa it wasn't my fault, then they wacked it up by £100 a month, so I though that as I wouldn't be able to pay it back then I may as well not bother to take action.
  8. I cancelled it!!! Even if I did get it I would send it back! Look, I was using it as a test auction to find out if it was lacing limits.. I don't even want a rolex! Are you going to help me or not?
  9. I wasn't ! I knew that there wasnt enough in my account, but I was curious as to why it was happening with smaller items even though I had no overdraft
  10. Hi, I have been given a defaut notice by Santander. Let me explain the situation. I was blacklisted by paypal for not paying them charges etc etc. So I set up an account with santander. Paypal told me the were going to use a direct debit to test my account, and this would be the only time the would ever use a dd. Anyway, I purchased something small, and I found it went through. Curious, I stupidly attempted to purchase a Rolex watch at the price of £6000, it didn't go through, and I cancelled the transaction. What I didn't realise was that paypal had set it up as a direct debit so even though I cancelled it on ebay, paypal were still trying to take it out. Anyway, this gave a bounced dd to Santander who then persued me for it. I ignored everthing they sent me as I felt the £300 of charges they want is ridiculous as for a start these £300 of charges don't even exist: paypal have lost nothing and nor have the sellers. Now I have been given a default notice and I don't know what to do. I don't want to talk to paypal as they have been giving me dca letters which I have ignored just long enough for them to go away, so the last thing I want to do is put myself back on their radar... Does anyone have any suggestions? I am livid. I have never been given od charges before, especially as when I got the account I specifically said I didn't want an overdraft. What should I do now? I'm a student. They can take me to court if they like but I can't give what I don't have!
