  1. Hello all here is the scenario appreciate help as to what to do next: 28th February my work informed me that my pay wouldn't go into my account until the 2nd of March I went home and logged online to move my standing orders (not direct debits but standing orders to my girlfriends account) it would not let me change the date because they were setup to be taken the next day. The next morning (8.15am) I called the a & l line they said tough they had already attempted to be taken and failed and I would be charged £25 for each one, 10 in total - £250, (8 to the same account)! Stressed and unhappy I went into my local branch approx 10am and explained, they were very helpful, but still had to phone the a&l line themselves on behalf of me??!! The chap on the end said that yes the money had attempted to be taken but as there was no funds it couldn't be, but as these are standing orders I am in complete control and should be able to change them and won;t be charged - their exact words. roll onto today and I have received a letter outlining unpaid standing orders and that I will be charged for them, but no amount - this will show on my next statement. Called them again tonight and they said this is correct and I will be charged. I am keeping my emotions out of this so as not to muddy the water. I have been charged in the past for missing the odd direct debit and I understand that (sort of) but feel this is different and that I made every attempt to stop them, they (a&l) said speak to my work but they say the gave me enough notice to change them. Ahh I said to the a & l girl that I couldn't pay it and she said to speak to the collections dept but that would affect my credit history, I have a £1000 overdraft just now (arranged) and am at -£980 I am worried I tackle this the wrong way they call that in and add on the £250 then I 'm really in it!
