  1. It might help someone. I had an old AOL email account (not used for 2 years) which was compromised yesterday. I made many phone calls to try and close it. I found the correct number to dial is 0808 234 9279. DO NOT USE ANY PROMPTS. Just hang on the line and you will be put through to a Customer Services person who then cancelled my account.
  2. I shall get used to this forum soon. I meant to post the follwing on your reply:- If he bins the DMC, I presume the creditors will start to chase as he will not be paying anything into a fund. I am still uneasy to use an address, but cannot see any other choice to get these s.78 repies. My wife would certainly not want these people just turning up to ask about the debt, which I understand they can do. Sorry to prolong this thread but I have got most of what to do so far and that is send off S.78 letters. Wait for 14 days. Then post each reply onto seprate threads.

  4. Just thought about it. Does that mean, use my address in the UK and keep his hidden for the return of the forms. The only trouble with that I suppose, they will think he lives with me. Hmmm. I seem to be digging a hole.
  5. Apparently approx 30% is charges for late payment or missed payments. Doesn't think there is PPI

  7. Can I send my own cheque for a pound for the S.78 in place of my family members debt or does the cheque have to come from my family member. It's juts the fact he doesn't want the creditors to know his bank account in Channel Islands. Or, are we being too cautious.
  8. There is no CCJ and no secured loans. The RBS was all three. Loan, Overdraft and Credit card. First Credit was overdraft. I shall get the ball rolling for him with S.78 letters. Thanks.
  9. Hi everyone. Have been reading these forums with interest and need some solid advice about debts owed by a family member of mine. He has lived in the Channel Islands for the last 6 years and left debts behind in England. He has had a debt management programme running for al this time. The Debt Management Company take £90 a month from him which includes a £25 management fee. The debt will be paid off in 22 years if the payments stay the same. The main reason to write now is that he and his partner are due to have a baby in August. They are also having to move from a 1 bed small flat to a slightly larger one bed property which will cost £1200 per month. (Channel Islands rent is expensive). I said I would do some research to find out if a F/F settlement with the 8 companies would be a good idea. I can list them. The biggest debt is with Wescot credit Services for £6800. This was from an RBS debt. The second largest with First Credit t/a Connaught Collections for £3100. The others range from £1300, £1000, £900 to £600 and £100. I have read about asking for the agreement terms but wondered if it was straightforward to just write to them all with the template letter and make an offer of some kind. The only issue will be that he will only afford a loan of bout £5000 over a 3 year period. Ideas please! I should add that he would like to try and resolve these debts quicker to enable them to have a possible 'other' avenues to go down in case they leave the Channel Islands due to such a high living cost, especially with a child.
