  1. Hi, I bought a washing machine from Argos last August. In September, the plastic paddles on the inside of the drum broke off. Argos sent an engineer around who fitted new ones and said that often a coin in the drum can cause these to break. Since then we've been careful with what we load in, but dispite this two of the three paddles have broke off again. I called Argos saying the same fault had occurred and that I'd like to return the washing machine as I don't believe its fit for purpose. They then said the best they could do was to send round an engineer to try and fix it. They also said that if the engineer found a coin, they'd charge me £106 for the call out! I don't think we've let a coin into the drum, but I'm worried that one might have slipped through. I do believe however, that a modern washing machine less than 6 months old should be able to cope with the occaisonal un-emptied pocket! So my question is, can I insist that Argos take back the machine as unfit for purpose (which they seem unwilling to do) as I think the plastic paddles are a design flaw that are unfit for the stresses of a rapidly spinning washing machine? A quick response would be greatly appreciated as there is an engineer coming round next tuesday and I really don't want to give Argos £106! Thanks
