  1. Just to update everyone. Argos have now delivered part of the furniture suite. I am told that the missing set of drawers will be here on Tuesday. Just want to add that inlight of our problems, Argos had acted in a very professional and courtious manner and seems to have done everything possible to get our order delivered asap. Thankfully the problems is now nearly sorted... WELL DONE ARGOS!
  2. Thanks for your help on this issue. I shall have to write to them regarding my underpayment, detailing every payment received and draw their attention to the LHA Rates specific to me at that time period. Then hopefully they will respond by sending me out the money I am due. I shall then add £250 to this amount and submit it in to clear my partners HB overpayment. I know its a bit of a long winded situation, but we are all governed by the red tape. Hopefully that should then be the end of it. Thanks again.
  3. Hi, I have a query relating to housing benefit overpayment and the possibility of obtaining a write off. Basically my partner recently reieved a bill for overpayment of housing benefit for the sum of £1080. After looking into things I have calculated that, as I was over 25 during my period of unemployment, my housing benefit allowance has been under paid and by the book my partner would not have been entitlaed to claim for her housing benefit. After doing the sums taking this into account the overpayment as a whole is approx £250 which is somewhat different to the £1080 they are asking for. At this moment in time my partner is out of work and heavily pregnant. As I now work she is not entitled to any benefits. After looking into the guidelines I am wondering if on health grounds it is possible to request that this sum of approx £250 is written off as with the impending new arrival it is something that is unaffordable due to me amassing many debt due to recent unemployment which I am now attempting to clear. I am not happy in the way that the council has acted in notifying my partner via a collection agency which has caused undue stress to her. I am also fed up with the council seeming to bombard people who have lost their jobs with request after request for money when you have only recently managed to get back into employment. Any help is much apreciated!
  4. Wish I'd have known earlier, unfortunatley as time is not on our side I feel that we have no choice but to hope they delivery it by 14.07.10 due to time scales of refund cheques clearing and another firms delivery time.
  5. Basically my partner ordered a nursery suite from argos on 03.06.10. The catalogue states that delivery is usually within 14 days. The reciept stated that we would recieve a call from argos on 22.06.10 to arrange delivery. On 22.06.10 I called Argos as it was late in the day and I had recieved no call. The operator said that they had stock delays and it would now take until 14.07.10 to recieve this call to arrange delivery. After looking into problems other people have had, I now am very concerned that this will be delayed again and as my partner is heavily pregnant (her due date is 05.08.10) I am worried that we will not hevr the nursery ready in time. We paid cash in the store (£380) and if we recieved the money back via cheque, wait for that to clear, then order something else and await delivery this will probably arrive after 14.07.10. We do not have another spare £400 to order another nursey suite and I am really annoyed and feel that we have been let down very badly. Any ideas what I can do as I dont want to fail my little girl! HELP!!
  6. Hi, I have a question regarding a Default Notice that was issued to me. The Notice states it is Section 87(1) of the consumer act 1974. Basically a company has issued a Default notice for the incorrect amount due to their records showing that I incorrectly owe them funds. They made an administration error and the default relates to an amount of £117, on querying what this was about I was informed that a revised bill would be sent out for £43, as I have not recieved this bill for £43 I surely cannot yet be in arrears. Also I recieved no correspondence prior to the issuing of this Default notice. Can they ruin my credit rating due to their mistake? Thanks for any help
  7. Abit long winded- sorry! I am currently experiencing problems with Virgin media and would like to ask for your assistance in clarifying if this company is allowed to act in this way. My partner had a Virgin TV, phone and internet package. All was fine until, due to our landlord, we had to move house at short notice. I called Virgin to explain we were moving and asked if they could transfer our services to our new address. This call is on file as being made on 14/11/09. After moving I called a week later to query what was happening with our transfer, I was then informed that we now lived in a non Virgin area and they could not supply us with the services we required. I asked to cancel the package and for Virgin to send us a final bill. A debit was taken from our account in December and we assumed that was the final payment and our services were terminated, we heard no more and assumed this as Virgin had our new address to write to. Then on 04/03/10 I made a call after my partner received a default notice and discovered that our requests had fell on deaf ears and our package at our previous address was still live. I called Virgin and they confirmed that even though on file notes our requests were noted nothing had happened. We now are receiving calls from a company called CSL who I have been told are a third party collection company. In light of this I am asking if Virgin can issue a Default notice for money even though they say they are now revising our final bill to include the relevant credits we are owed and that this will be posted to us in the next few working days. In my opinion as we have not been sent a final bill with the correct amount owed, we have not had reasonable time to pay this. Also can they instruct a debt collection agency to harass us and are they allowed to pass over confidential client details in light of the data protection rules as we cant be in debt as they have not sent us a correct final bill yet. I really hope to get this sorted out soon and forget about this company and never use them again, but I feel that they have acted disgracefully towards my pregnant partner in causing her much unwarranted stress though no fault of our own. Thanks in advance for your thoughts. Chris
