I have an MBNA and a Capital One credit card. My credit limit and balance is £500, and once the monthly interest is added the balance due is over the £500 limit. However, MBNA are charging me a £12 overlimit fee each time the total balance is over £500, but Capital One isn't - I presume this is because my spending is not taking me over the limit, it is the interest. Can MBNA charge me this? It does seem unfair as I am given a £500 limit, but what they are really saying is I cannot spend that amount because it needs to take into account interest and charges. So far this year I have been charged £60, three payments being over August, September and October 2009, so I am paying an overlimit charge ontop of an overlimit charge. I now know to try and pay more than the minimum payment so I do not incur this additional charge, but it seems strange that Capital One don't charge me this? Please let me know your thoughts.
