  1. Hello Rob11, what was the outcome of your case?
  2. Hi I do have a previous post on this thread, which is the long story of how I got here. I bought a vaio note book from comet 18 months ago for £900. In that time the unit has required repair twice and is now in need of a third repair as the motherboard is faulty. It is out of warranty by 6 months. however, there is a warranty in place for one specific component in the notebook which is the graphics card, this is offered by Sony, although is not the cause of failure. I have written to Comet investigations team and have received the following reply. We require £60 to inspect the laptop. We can offer a repair, but this would void any manufactures warranties and would be chargable, we do offer a sliding scale of charges, taking into account the units age" I have had an inspection performed by sony which states the motherboard is faulty and will cost £740 to repair. I am aware of the sale of goods act and believe I have a case for the durability, satisfactory quality and the free from defect at time of sale part, but could really do with confirmation that I definitely have a case for court proceedings. *I have to offer comet chance of repair----this I have done but they will void a warranty I wish to keep in place, as the unit has a component inside which is liable to failure. they have offered no further resolution and have left the ball in my court. *My options I think are the following, Issue the report to Comet that Sony produced detailing the repair at £740, and seek that figure as damages in small claims. Pay comet £59 for their inspection. Then haggle for a discounted repair which will void the warranty I wish to keep, possibly going to small claims if not repaired for free. If anyone has ideas then please post, I very much require a resolve. Thanks
  3. I thought it was tricky too... Has any one any experience of a complaint going to court?
  4. Hi, I bought from Comet in March 08' a Vaio notebook for £900:). The Vaio had a warped case, so Comet exchanged for an identical model no problem. Vaio worked great until june 08' when the usb's on the side were found not to work and more concerning the computer would reset the date to some time in 1996..? Comet stated best to send to sony..I agreed since it involves sony arranging collection and delivery from your home. long story short, two trips to Vaio repair in June and July 08', 1st trip replaced USB board & reflashed BIOS. 2nd trip replaced motherboard & reflashed BIOS. It did then work fine until sept 09' where, with a black screen it turns off a few seconds after power on.. Back to Sony, they love it. It now needs.....£747.54 motherboard:evil: With the SOGA, price, and 18 months personal use in mind. Comet will offer free repair, which am thunking is ok. BUT have found out that Nvidia (the people who make the graphic card soldered to the motherboard) made a wee boo-boo and put an inherently defective part in all the cards for a while(publicly announced july08')....and don't seem to have rectified the fault. So, whilst it would be nice to have said free repair, would prefer them not to replace a bad part with another one likely to break soon!! Any thoughts on looking for an exchange?? any advice would be most welcome, I apologies for the length of this post, Comet got three pages:eek: and three options 1. free repair by sony, with confirmation of revised graphics card 2. exchange 3. refund, less 20% of purchase price They seem fair to me, but can I enforce them should it go to court?? thanks again
