  1. Hi, I'm posting yet again but this time to help my sister. She's had a halifax mastercard credi card for in excess of 2 years, the original limit was £2000 . She has never exceeded her limit but in the last 24 months the card was on several occasions nearly maxed out and on occasions she was a few days late making the payment (for which she got charged late payment fees). In February of this year she took a personal loan, with the Halifax of c£5000 to clear the balance on the said card and also pay off a Lloyds TSB visa card which had a balance of around £2500. She then cancelled the Lloyds card but kept the Halifax card. When the balance was cleared the Halifax reduced her limit of their own free will to £1000. She actually had a credit balance of c£50 but as used the card once to reduce the credit balance to c£2. She's had a letter today from the Halifax and they say that having recently reviewed her report from the Equifax records bureau they have come to the decision that they are cancelling the card within 30 days. The credit limit has already been reduced to £500. We've rung them and they say that this decision cannot be overturned. I find this whole scenario astonishing. Can they really do this? She wanted to pay it off for 2 reasons a) to ensure that she had peace of mind in avoiding any further late payment charges if she was unable to pay the required amount on the required date and b) knowing that she is going abroad in July for 3 weeks that she had the security of knowing that if there was any problem that she could use a credit card, and furthermore that it would avoid having to carry excessive amounts of cash. I spoke to a supervisor on her behalf to try and get to the bottom of what criteria they use to arrive at such a decision. The best I could get out of them was that it probably related to the amount of late payment charges on her account in the last 24 months. She gave me the address of an underwriting department that we could write to and appeal, although made it quite clear that they would only change their decision in the event that the information that they have been provided by Equifax was incorrect and this of course is unlikely. She has a mortgage, one credit card, and the personal loan, and thats it. I would hardly think that constitutes excessive credit in this era. We're just about to pay Equifax £15 for the privilege of seeing her credit file and assess it. Can anyone help us with this? My feeling is that in removing this line of credit it would only be detrimental to her credit rating and make it much harder to borrow if she so needed to. She just doesnt want to lose this card. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Paul
  2. hey Ell, The hearing went well and the judge went in favour of my proposal. I don't think I'd have got through it without your assistance, so thank you so so much. Take care Paul

  8. Ok, great. I considered £400 on the basis that my offers of £300 and £350 had already been refused by Salt. I may take your advice and offer slightly less and see what happens. I don't want to take up any more of your time for the moment so I'll post here when I get details of the hearing. thanks

  10. Ok, this is fantastic, at the very worst I'll be outside waiting for the doors to open first thing tomorrow. Do you feel that my offer is reasonable? I'm not asking you to predict an outcome obviously !!! I'll keep you updated with the progress, and thank you so much again for your assistance. Best regards Paul

  14. I've spoken to the court, being that time is running short. If I submit an application tomorrow at 10am, the hearing would be most likely on Wednesday (the day of eviction) but the eviction action will be postponed pending the outcome of the said hearing. Do you agree that this is correct?
