  1. Job is Consulting in England. Request initially made via telephone call from Disclosure Scotland, followed by a letter in the post requesting my signed consent and two passport photographs. God knows why because they have made it clear they cannot eliminate me via photographs. Unfortunately, as Emmzzi has pointed out, this is the society we live in. Guilty until proven innocent. I am a genuine person who has never been involved with the law but I am now being made to feel like a criminal. If I don't consent to giving my fingerprints, they will withdraw the job offer due to lack of co-operation during screening. When my ID was returned to me (after being stolen and misused), I was reassured by the police that this had been noted and would not affect my record, for future job applications etc. What a beautiful lie.
  2. Rang Disclosure Scotland today to ask if they could use any alternative means of elimination (such as photographs). They said no. Checked my emails from HR and it is actually a Basic Disclosure check. What do I do?
  3. Appreciate this, it is reassuring. Especially since you have worked there! No idea what type of check it is, they didn't give much information over the phone. How do I find out? [EDIT: Basic Disclosure check] I presume by your answer that I should go ahead and provide the fingerprints as required? Will my fingerprints be destroyed as soon as it is ascertained that I am not the culprit?
  4. I will do this, thanks. Disclosure Scotland. They asked a few questions, notably: Have you ever had any involvement with the police? Have you ever lived at X? My answer to these questions was no. Surely this would eliminate me? This is unbelievable. Even if it is proven ID fraud, this will blemish my name forever and potentially cause problems with future employers? I can't believe this is the country I live in. Appreciate all your help everyone.
  5. Yes, checked my credit file on Experian - thankfully nothing there to worry about. I am concerned that the person who messed with my ID has managed to get his crimes merged onto my records, i.e. they think he is me. In other words, they might have recorded his crimes on my records. Ok, I will think about this. Giving fingerprints makes me feel very uncomfortable and I would prefer not to if I don't have to. As a matter of interest, the new job is with an employer who use an external screening agency to conduct these searches. Who should I contact - the agency or the employer?
  6. Hello, * Background info: 5 years ago, I lost my photocard driving licence (on a night out) and around 2 years after that, it was returned to me by the police. They would not give any details as to what the ID was used for during that time. * Now, I am undergoing regular employment screening for a new job. Never had any trouble with the police, no cautions/charges/convictions. I recently had a phone call from the organisation conducting the screening, asking a few questions about where I have lived/worked/etc. Referring to an address in the city where I have never lived before. Apparently, my details are 'similar' to another person who has been involved in criminal activity. They concluded that I would need to have my fingerprints taken to confirm that this person is not me. I will soon receive information in the post and will have to arrange an appointment at the police station to have this done. I have a strong feeling that whilst my driving licence was in the wrong hands, it was being used for something foolish. I called the police about this, but they were not helpful and simply suggested I complete the data protection form (and pay £10) to release any information held about me. My concerns: 1. Will this false information stick with me on the PNC for the rest of my life, or can it be removed? 2. What if I fail the fingerprint check too, for whatever reason? For instance, my house was burgled a few years ago and the police took my fingerprints so that when dusting the house, they could disregard my prints. What if these are the prints they have on file for me! Please advise me on what to do. Many thanks.
  7. Hello, Made an appeal to my local authority recently. Please answer these two questions: 1. What is the legally defined observation time for loading/unloading goods from a vehicle parked in restricted (single yellow) line? 2. What are the consequences if the council does not meet the 20 working day response deadline set by the Freedom of Information Act? Many thanks
  8. OK have appealed on the grounds that the road markings are non-compliant (broken double yellows and missing t-bar). Requested under FOI act certain information - or cancel the penalty notice. Reply received stating information will be given within 20 day statutory period, possibly subject to fee. What should I do? This would take me beyond the 14-day discount period. If anyone wants pictures to see whether I have a case or not, PM me and I will send them to you. Thanks
  9. Hello, Received PCN a few days ago from Leicester City Council. Penalty is £25/£50 after 14 days. Wondering if I ignore it will it disappear? Don't want to give too many more details just in case. Thanks
