  1. :D I live in a small town on the mull of kintyre my nearest motorway is 138 miles away going into Glasgow......at least a 6 hour round trip to give the car a blast on the motorway:D:D With the car stopping dead when you accelerate I could potentialy kill myself or others it will cut out at 20mph and even more dangerously it has stopped dead at 70mph when we got permission to try it on the taxiway (so we didnt risk other road users) at our airport....everything goes engine, powersteering, brakes no warning just beep and car dies..... really frightening As I have found this car is not suitable for town driving that I do...... would take it down the motorway if we had access to one.....only in the last year we got our 1st set of traffic lights LOL

Hi thanks, this has been an ongoing problem since I got the car, the fault appeared 3 weeks after getting it and months of wrangling with the garage the ongoing problem has left me without a car. When I looked at the car I explained it was just for work approx 2 miles with a couple of journeys up to the city 138 miles away. When the warning lights and limp mode started coming on I was told by the garage it was nothing to worry about...when the car would cut out at 60 mph the gargage said it was the starter motor.....there are hundreds of 406's around.....I was never made aware that this one had an antipollution system on it....as I do short journeys the car exhust system is not reaching the temp of 450 degrees to burn off the carbon deposits in the FAP fuel antipollution system which is part of the exhuast system I have researched pages and pages of this system and the car needs to be run at speeds of 50mph for at least 5 mins for the regeneration of the fap to begin...as all my journey ar to and from work within a 30mph limit it is quite hard to adhere to these conditions on a daily basis so the carbon desposits are building up and blocking the filter... They can be computer forced regeneration which can melt the paintwork of anything directly behind the exhaust as the revs are held 4000 rpm for 5 mins These complex systems were introduced in 2001 to lower your emissions...I and the 2 other garages in my area had not come across these systems and if I had been told at the time of sale that this was the case I would not have purchased this car:( I would urge anybody buying a car to ask if it had a FAP system Even when the FAP was replaced less than a year ago I was not advised Having spent £2000 and counting as car has been of road for nearly 3 weeks I just wanted to know if I was able to ask for a replacement or could I reject the car......... I have done just about 5400 miles and only had a spell of 6 weeks that the car was not in the garage Hope this can explain a bit of the system that is on this car;-) Also on some manufactures websites they say these systems are not suitable for town driving, taxi's etc and the buyer should be made aware of this and the system needs replaced and additive topped up at around 60000 miles......so this car is not fit for the purpose that I use it:( thanks again as Im trying to get as much info on the consumers right before approaching Peugeot

Hi newbie here 1st post;) I purchased a 2nd hand car through a Peugeot dealer £4000 in Sept 07.... car developed a fuel antipollution fault 3 weeks later...car was in and out of garage and I have now paid £1900 in repairs... car has now been off the road 2 weeks 9 weeks intotal as fault has occurred again....I wrote to Head Office Managing Director on Mon with all dates etc of faults they received letter on Wed and I received letter back today.....they say they will offer a discounted amount on repairs....I dont want to accept that as the garage does not have a lot of experience on this engine....I since discovered in Oct 08 as car wouldnt start that this car is not suitable for short stop start journeys because of the complex anti pollution system, the car would cut of when driving stop dead if you accelerated ...there is an additve that should injects 37ml of Eloys additive into the fuel tank and it keeps adding wrong levels that my fuel ends up being contaminated...this time is has wrecked lots of the solenoids, injectors and I am facing another £500 bill plus £100 to refill the additive...Head Office say the dealer does not have to offer me anything and this would be a goodwill gesture....Can I reject the car as it was not fit for the purpose....is the dealer obliged to anything...any advice would be most welcome..... I have all receipts, letters and all correspondence from the garage... If I could have afforded a £6000 I would have bought one...now I have spent half the cars value on repairs and it still wont start...Head Office apologise and say this is uncommon and regrettable Thanks in advance
