  1. Hi guys, Thanks for the info. I will try to get the tax sorted during the week and update this thread if they give me any hassles. Thanks, Jake
  2. hi dx Thanks for your reply. But will DVLA see it that way as well? I just hope it won't be one of those cases where even if I filled things in correctly on the form they'll turn around and say no it's my fault for not checking everything was ok with what they sent back. Do they store those forms somewhere coz I have no other proof apart from that form that I filled it in correctly? Also I tried looking at the online tax thing. It said you have to have valid insurance from the day the tax disc is valid. The site automatically specified 01/02 as the date but because I was waiting for my licence I didn't have insurance on this day. Will it still be ok if I do it online then? Thanks, Jake
  3. Hi all, This is my first post and I was looking for a bit of information regarding SORN, taxing and fines and all that. I am relatively new in the UK and recently bought a car from someone. So obviously I don't quite know ALL the rules when buying a car. This is my situation: The tax on the car expired on 31/12/2008. I filled in Section 6 of the V5C on 13/01 and sent it off to DVLA with Date Of Sale or transfer specified as 30/01/2009 since this is the day that the previous owner was going to officially hand it over to me because he is emigrating on this day. I received the new V5C back though saying I acquired the vehicle on 13/01. I have also been waiting for DVLA to send me back my new UK licence so that I can get car insurance so that I can get car tax. This arrived today only. I have now organised the insurance and will go in to the PostOffice next week to get my new tax disc. But from reading some of these other posts, I am pretty sure I will get hounded by a SORN notice one of these days. What I would like to know is if I would be liable to pay any fines that may arrive for not taxing the car or declaring the SORN? That was the previous owner's responsibility right? How does this work? Thanks for the help! Jake
