Hi, I'm new. I'll try and keep it brief - it's a long story. I have a Halifax Current account. When I applied for Halifax One Visa CC I completed a Direct Debit mandate to pay full amount off monthly. This didnt happen for some reason, they kept hounding me with calls saying they hadnt had the money, could I make a switch payment etc charging me late payment fees etc... I couldnt understand why DD wasnt working, Visa said it was banks fault, bank said it was Visa etc... In desperation to avoid more calls, late payments etc, I set up another DD by telephone, this seemed to work OK. A year later I applied for further credit but got refused due to late payments. This made me cross as they werent my fault, I approached my bank for proof of DD mandate so I could claim back late payments and to my horror discovered I had actually been paying TWO direct debits for a good 12 months - one of them wasnt into my account no - basically, I have been paying someone else's credit card off for a year. It wasnt easy to spot on my bank statements as the due dates are on different dates of where my bank statement ends and simply say "HBOS Card Services" My bank manager was horrified and refunded money immediately but Halifax Visa have been shocking. I have tried to contact them on numerous occasions but just get fobbed off with 'A complaint form has been sent out' I feel they should be pulled to task for this, I have no idea how this happened. My bank manager seems to think when I set up the second DD by phone the operator may have left up my details by mistake when the next caller came in. Unbelievable! To make things worse, they still wont increase my £500 credit limit, despite stealing over £1000 from me over the last 12 months and I am in credit with my bank to the tune of several thousand. I have other credit cards so no skin off mine but I just feel sick that they can happily take my money, give it to someone else and then snottily tell me because I was late with my payments I dont qualify for further credit. Staggering!!
