  1. Misread the letters (are abit gobble-de-gook) and assumed the underpayment was from my side and I was awaiting information for repayment but got a cheque through for the amount which clarified everything. Thanks for your help
  2. Hi, I didn't want to hijack another thread of a similiar name so created a new one. I've received a letter saying I had underpaid tax in years 12/13 and 13/14 (the amount owed is £77 after deductions were made) I'll try to give a quick idea of my employment trail if that helps: 2012 - Working until December 2012. Signed on after that point 2013 - I signed off JSA as I took a position which ultimately was a [problem] job (employers didn't pay me and due to their dubious history, doubt that they forwarded any tax for me) 2013 - Around June time I went on JSA again 2014 - In February, I got full time employment and have been in this job since. Now the "employer" who didn't pay me I doubt caused the issue as someone else who experienced the same, i.e. not being paid, had no problems with tax underpayment after leaving. It might be my new employers but I'm thinking of sending a letter to HMRC asking for an explanation but will this explanation provide an insight as to who is responsible or will it be generic? Any advice appreciated.
  3. Thank you very much BB and Mr P. This is all very informative just incase, the worst case disaster scenario happens and the job falls through and they ask me to do this. But my advisor is pretty sound but I wonder whether the pressure she might be under from her superiors might nudge me towards one of their own MW placements rather than seeing common sense and letting me do my voluntary work. Thank you guys, extremely helpful.
  4. JCP. She did mention two-day training courses so I imagine she might (as she seems relaxed and nice), might let me do the training courses rather than mandatory work.
  5. ATM, I'm waiting on a start date for a job so hopefully won't be on JSA allowance any longer. At my last advisor meeting last week, my advisor told me that if this job didn't pan out (did not know I'd got the job at that stage) that they should would either put on a two-day training or mandatory work. Now, since November 2013, I'd been doing voluntary work in admin etc which I firmly believed helped me get this job I'm waiting on and helped me get an interview for another job which I was unsuccessful for. But she said despite it being voluntary work, I'd have to do mandatory work. So potentially, had things not worked out for me, I would have had to leave my voluntary work to do a mandatory work scheme (am I right in saying that's basically the Work Programme and a placement at Poundland?) that won't have helped me in getting work in the field I'm experienced in? Madness to me if that's the case. Shame some logical thought can't go into these sorts of situations when a person is actively heloing their chances for work and it could be hampered by leaving that for his mandatory work scheme.
  6. Thank you mate. Ahh, I've not been doing my normal checks online with my Jobmatch but my advisor didn't check throughly last time so I could just add some in for the ones missed.
  7. I've been offered a job but yet to get a start date as they doing the administrative side of things but also completing a DBS check which could potentially take time to complete. It was submitted last Friday so not sure when I'll get it (Although doing a DBS check for my voluntary work - I got it back within a week. My new employer say might take longer for some reason) but if I tell Jobcentre then they'll stop my claim immediately and I may not start work for another 2-3 weeks? Do they give you a final payment after you've landed a job? (I think that's only done if you've had a 100% attendance?) Not sure what to do as I'm not sure when work will begin and what to do regards to my JSA. Any advice appreciated. Thank you.
  8. I had it clarified with my JSA advisor who said I can't claim if it's within my local radius as my JSA allowance covers it.
  9. Oh, so they've never rejected it for being too close to home? I will pop into my local Jobcentre tomorrow because I was told they'd help with travel for interviews.
  10. Do Jobcentre have restrictions on them helping you with travel on interviews? I've got an interview next week and called the Jobcentre up to ask how to get a rail ticket/bus pass as I had done last year for an interview in Leeds. After being passed through to team that my advisor is on, the lady goes because Doncaster is within my local radius and where they would expect me to potentially work, that they couldn't fund me. Yet they gave me a rail ticket for the one in Leeds. Again, I wasn't aware there were restrictions and one my previous advisor (and current one) didn't mention anything about if it was local, that they wouldn't pay for travel. Anyone got any information or advice on this? Thank you.
  11. I live with my parents. It's my father who has the home insurance under his name so does that insurance cover all the people living in the house as the issue concerns my mother, rather than my father? We’ve already pursued things through the complaint process and received a response that we were expecting, i.e the surgeon saying he told us how the operation would go and the risks but the latter was not foreseen in the way that it has worked out for my mother. We’ve spoken to a few medical professionals who’ve said they’ve never experienced a response to an operation, which is successful without issues, like it before. It’s difficult for me, in a personal opinion, to ascertain whether what has happened is due to a mistake that’s being hidden or whether it was something unforeseen and it JUST happened. But I feel they completely ignored what my mother was saying to them in the early days after the operation, that she couldn’t feel her feet and struggling to urinate, and were dismissive rather than take that as urgent sign to investigate promptly. And also, the solicitor said a bank account may include before and/or after the event insurance, again would this have needed to be something my mum would have needed to add onto her bank account?   12. I was wondering if someone would kindly, in laymans terms, explain the after the event insurance. The reason why I ask is that one of my parents had a nerve operation in 2011 that hasn’t worked out at all and has seen my parent’s condition worsen to the point where she is struggling with day to day things. We are in the process of speaking to a solicitor of putting forward discussions or a case to the hospital in regards to claiming some compensation for this operation failure which they said would be fine etc. The solicitor wants use to see whether our home insurance includes the above insurance as he said it would help with costs etc? Having briefly checked it, it seems to me that the solicitor wants us to do this so he gets some money back whether we win or lose so question his motives to be honest. Would after the event insurance already be attached to my home insurance when I took out the latter policy or would it be something that I’d have to call up and add on? Any advice thoroughly appreciated. Thank you.
  13. The difficulty in taking them to court is that they simply do not care. One person took them to a tribunal and won yet that person has yet to reclaim any money. I'm going to try and re-claim something if I can but doubt it.
  14. Since I started there on the 17th of April, I was not shown or given a contract until yesterday when it was thrust into my hands. Even then, I didn't sign it and the guy took it off me. He continually kept repeating that I HAD to work four weeks' notice, end of. There is also a major concern from others who I have spoken to who've said that he takes away National Insurance contributions but doesn't pay them on hence one past employee said she was having conversations with the tax man about this.
  15. I started what I believed was a full time, permanent position as a writer for a newspaper. I was e-mailed an offer of employment to which I replied back to happily confirm. However, it seemed my “dream” job was too good to be true. I heard horror stories of lack of payment from this company and complete disinterest in the staff. On my first day, I was not asked for my bank details, National Insurance details what so ever. Infact, I went and gave the details to the finance assistant. It’s nearing my first month this up coming week and I decided to leave. I told the managing editor who told me, that I would have to work out a four weeks notice?! Even though I’m told by a union representative that it would be one week because I’m within my first month. BUT I have not signed a contract so I don’t need to give a notice, do I? The contract of employment they sent me via email confirming wages, start date I’m told is sufficient to help me recoup my wages they should give to me if they refuse to. I’m dreading going to work because it’s an intimidating culture and I fear they will try to get me to a sign the contract that says four weeks notice! I’m incredibly stressed as the managing editor and I had a meeting which were heated and he got quite strong and aggressive. Kind regards
