  1. I just used highstreetvouchers.com for a £10 voucher and they charged £0.99 delivery by mail and it arrived a day late. Had difficulty paying online, they said the transaction had failed then minutes later got an email confirming the sale! Will not be using them again regardless of the number of 5* ratings they get on the net.
  2. I suspect that legally BF cannot charge for a crossing you have not made even if it is in their T&C, any attempt at recovery action would be laughed out of court. I wrote to BF explaining that due to exceptional circumstances I could not make the return crossing and received a reply saying they would waive the charge on this occasion, perhaps they looked at how often I have used their service in the past. They didn't even ask me why I had returned via Dover - perhaps they thought it was not relevant or indeed any of their business!
  3. Thanks for the comments reallymadwoman, however in my original post I was asking for advice on the legal position of BF demanding money for a service they did not provide. I did, of course, write to them as soon as I received their demand outlining why I had not taken the return journey, as yet no reply. The money they are asking for is not that important, it's the principle of the thing. The ferry on the way out was practically deserted, maybe they need to claw money back by whatever means they can! It's a real pity they have no competition sailing into the west country. If it is legal for them to demand money for a return journey which was not made then surely they could also demand money for a journey which was not made at all, for instance if you booked a 24 hour return and didn't use it at all because of illness. My inclination at the moment is to ignore the demand and see what happens next, I doubt they will follow through but it could be interesting.
  4. We didn't make the return crossing because of a problem with our car, we couldn't get back to the ferry port in time. We returned to the UK next day via Dover. It was not possible to take a later ferry using the same ticket as the ticket stipulates how long you are allowed to stay in France.
  5. I purchased a 24 hour return on Brittany Ferries from Plymouth to Roscoff and didn't make the return crossing. I now have a letter from them asking for an additional £101 as the additional amount for a full one way trip. Their T&C state that if you do not make the return crossing your credit/debit card will be charged with the difference between the "special offer price" and the normal one way ticket. Does that also mean that if you do not make either the outward or return journey they could still charge? I wonder if they have any legal right to charge for a service (i.e. the return journey) which I did not use?
  6. It would be interesting to know what transpired after the last post in January.
  7. Thanks for the advice, I will act on it, but a couple of questions first. When I initially telephoned Link to see what was going on they said they had bought the debt from HFC. Are you saying the debt is still with HFC and Link are just acting for them? If Link purchased the debt would I not have to CCA them? I have read through previous posts twofoot and I think you were very strong just to ignore the threats, not sure I can do that!
  8. Hi CAG members, excellent forum and lots of good advice. I am new to this and hope somebody out there can help! I have had a Marbles card from HFC Bank for over ten years, never missed a payment, and have used it both in the UK and in France, where I now live. I got into financial difficulties last year and have been paying them and agreed £10 per month since then. In March this year I received a letter from them requesting a financial statement which I returned and was granted another 6 months at £10 per month. Out of the blue I received a letter from a French debt recovery agency requesting the full amount of the balance (£10k) be paid immediately, plus their fees. I had no idea who these people were and after some investigation found out they were agents for Link Financial. I contacted Link and am currently paying them £10 per month for 6 months after refusing to deal with their French agent. I also contacted HFC and they confirmed they had “passed on” the debt to Link. I have had no correspondence from HFC or Link regarding this matter. As I am new to this game I wonder what my next steps are. Because I have held the credit card for so long I can no longer find the original agreement, should I write to HFC or Link requesting a copy of the assignment letter or the original agreement? I have read on another forum that UK debt is not enforceable in France, that is to say Link cannot get a CCJ on a French address so I would prefer to keep the debt in the UK and deal directly with them.
