Afternoon all, My wife went into our garage this morning to find that it had sprung a leak. Unfortunately, this is where I keep all my, (relatively), expensive PA equipment, (for the record this is personal and not busiiness stuff, I have an interest in sound recording and PA and have accrued various bits and pieces over the years), and a lot of it has become somewhat sodden. I've yet to go home and assess the damage. Our house is rented but we have our own contents policy with NU whom I have contacted and they tell me that, in general, the garage is covered as an outbuilding. I know a little about insurance and i'm concerned about proximate cause. i.e. the fact that the garage roof, (apparently), leaked and caused the damage to equipment. Therefore, are the insurance company going to insist that I use my landlords' building cover rather than pay out themselves? Any help would be appreciated. Jim P.S. I've had two claims I didn't follow through in the last 8 years, firstly for a camera which failed as it wasn't insured outside the house(!) and secondly for a PC my three year old gave orange juice to. I cancelled that claim when they told me I would be without it for up to 8 weeks while they attempted to repair it, (I managed it myself with a £90 motherboard). I don't know if this is relevant.

Good point. The speeding fine suggestion was mine. Although having read the terms more fully it only specifically mentions costs arising through legal misdemeanors as opposed to civil.

I have some experience with both and in some cases the contract hire company will request the V5 in the company name c/o the customers details. However, this is not the case here. In actuality this is a friend of a friend. It seems he heard about my success with banks and credit card companies and thought I might be able to help him. I was just exploring the possibilities on here and it seems he might not be telling me the whole truth or at best letting me think he has a stronger case than he actually has. Regardless, if the above proves true then there is little point in me trying to help him anyway. Thank you both for not letting me make a bigger idiot of myself.

Bizarre. The one I have here has a different name and address in section 1 to section 5, but, you're absolutely right they do both say registered keeper. However, if you read the bottom paragraph on the link you posted there is a distinction between the registered owner and the registered keeper.

Yeah, the registered owner is usually on the front page of the V5 and the keeper is listed inside. They are seperate, ironically, for situations such as leasing or company cars. It's not obvious though, I only know because I happen to be in the motor trade.

The lease company are on the V5 as the registered owner whereas he is listed as the registered keeper. It seems the PPC sent the letters to the owner rather than the keeper which kind of defeats the object of having a RK in the first place.

I have the V5 and he is definitely the registered keeper. He is prepared to issue proceedings if necessary. I'll be prompting him to follow the UTCCR route. Might nick your letter for the leasing co if that's ok though?

Yeah, the difficulty is that they only told him AFTER he'd paid it. My original plan was to go after the PCN, is there a reason that I shouldn't? Are they not at fault for not adressing the invoices to him as the RK? In my opinion this £17 admin fee by the leasing company isn't massively unfair. PS thanks for link. Am reading now.
