  1. Hi, Firstly I apologise for posting in wrong thread,my fault forgetting it was a sticky! Thank you so much Dx100uk for your detailed reply,it made really interesting reading. Where I may come unstuck is that I never kept any readings on the old meter, but its worth a try. I will contact edf and ask them to check old meter although it was 2 weeks ago meter was changed I wonder if they have disposed of it by now {dont know what happens to old meters} Knowing edf I have a battle ahead as it took them 4 months to sort out my subject access request! I will get on to them today and post any developments on here. thanks again , milly.
  2. Hi, I did attempt to post a reply last week but for some reason I couldnt submit my post. Very interested in your reply DX100uk.How did you go about asking bg electric for a refund? You say your circumstances were the same as mine,do you mean you had a new meter and suddenly your electricity costs were reduced?. I have been keeping a record and am now am only having to put 10.00 a week on key which is almost half the amount previously. Nothing has changed regarding my usage since having new meter. I want to persue this with edf so would appreciate your input . thanks milly
  3. :confused:Hi,havent been on here for a while but have posted a few times in last year,I got as far as sending SAR to EDF and eventually got sent a load of statements .Tbh couldnt understand a lot of what they sent so I left it and didnt pursue matters at that time. Two weeks ago a man from EDF came and changed our meter as it was 9 years old and apparently dont work as efficiently when they are that old. Now the strange thing is that since new meter been installed i am not having to charge the meter nearly as often! I have kept a record of what money i am now putting on the key. Before meter was changed I was having to put around 15 to 20 pounds a week. Now its friday and since monday ive put in 5.00 and will have to put in some more later today. I realize its not so cold now but i still have to use tumble dryer at times and nothing else has changed. Is it possible because old meter was not efficient i was somehow having to use more electricity? Should I tell edf or just be thankful I dont have to put so much on the key now, just wondering if i was paying too much in the past another strange thing is that before meter was changed i noted how much electric was left and when new meter was installed i had around 2.00 more electric than before! Any advice would be gratefully recieved. milly
  4. Hi Slick/doompriest, thank you both for your input,am going to tell relative to check her statements as Slick advises and get her account closed with written confirmation from barclaycard. Will update any news thanks milly.
  5. Hi Doompriest kano, thanks for your advice, have spoken to relative and now she says she never actually asked barclaycard to close account. She ASSUMED that because she sent them a large payment and cleared her balance the account would be closed. She remembers reading something that says even if you clear your balance you have interest to pay for previous month. So I suspect now she may be liable for these charges that have accrued since dec but she can get the account closed from now.is that correct? thanks milly
  6. Hi , I am asking this on behalf of a relative and would like some advice on what she should do next. Relative had barclaycard account and in Dec 09 she sent them a payment to clear her account so she owed nothing . She assumed that was end of matter but shes had 3 months of harrasment and threats on a daily basis from them saying she owes them 50 POUNDS..... She has told them she owes them nothing account is closed but they have now got Mercers involved. After talking to her today I dont think she ever recieved a letter saying her account was closed BUT surely they should have automatically closed her account ? She has still been getting statements with interest being added each month which is where the 50 POUNDS comes from. They wore her down so much she sent them a payment last week for 28 pounds! I only knew about this today so hoping someone can advise best action to take next.. thanks milly.
  7. Thanks Martin, I understand what you are saying about sar and proof of identity,I still think EDF are being awkward. I have never had to supply proof of identity before ,I must have sent about 10 sar in the past. I will have a look on EDF website to see what their policies are. at this rate it will be Autumn before I get to see whats in my SAR......... milly.
  8. EDF are being unreasonable in connection with my SAR request.... The reply to my rebate request said if I wanted a SAR to send 10.00 and gave the address to send it too ,this I did. After 2 weeks I recieved a letter from edf stating before they could consider a SAR request they needed proof of identity and address from me!.... also I had to send 10.00 cheque [i have already sent the 10.00 cheque] I tried to ring edf and got nowhere as apparently the person dealing with SAR is on holiday and no one else can help me........ Why didnt edf tell me initially about needing all this ID proof? its all designed to make me give up but Im not giving up that easy.. I Need to know what they have done with my cheque so I will be ringing back on monday . Maybe this could be a good sign, perhaps the delaying tactics are because they know eventually they may have to refund customers. milly
  9. Hi , having a problem with partners ppi refund from barclaycard He had to contact Financial Ombudsman and eventually barclaycard agreed to repay the ppi premiums,at every stage they delayed things as long as they could. About 3 weeks ago he recieved letter from b,card stating what they had calculated refund to be and then said as account was being dealt with by a third party[calder]they had arranged for refund to be deducted from balance owing ! Account is with calders[,b,card dca ] as it is in dispute and has been for 8 months.,anyway partner wrote back to b,card stating he wanted the refund paid direct to him as b,card had no right to offset the total amount against the balance owing..... So far he has heard nothing so we need to know what we can do next, their are arrears on the account now since it has been in dispute, refund is for 500 pounds, arrears approx 250.00 so surely all they can offset is 250.00? In his letter partner asked for the total refund,to see what happened ,but its no surprise that hes not heard anything... We are not giving up on this but is their any legal stuff we can quote to them? any help would be great, thanks, milly
  10. Final update .... friend managed to withdraw total refund from halifax! halifax either didnt have time to offset the refund or they had no intention of offsetting, either way it was a good result.... so I guess the moral of this post is anyone worried about their refund being offset against another account should get the money out as soon as it is paid in,just in case. thanks for help and advice milly
  11. Good news! Yesterday the refund was paid into friends bank[halifax] before they had chance to offset she withdrew daily allowance and hopefully will withdraw rest of refund today . thanks for everyone's input ,my partner has similar problem with barclaycard I will post details later milly
  12. Thank you dx100uk for your input ,I have had a look at the link you gave me and it appears Halifax will have to refund by way of a cheque ! Will update outcome , Thanks....Milly
  13. Yes I have heard about the legal right of setoff but Im not sure it applies in this case because as far as I am aware when you have a refund the loan provider has to put you back in the position you would have been in had you not had the ppi. So if the ppi has already been paid in full then surely the customer should keep the money ,not the bank ? I have read somewhere thet the only time the loan provider can keep the refund is if someone is in arrears with there account. Please could someone confirm if I am correct....... thank you.....
  14. Hi, I am asking this on behalf of a friend who is a cag member, hope someone can advise. Friend claimed ppi through one of those companies and they have been successful! After they take their money friend should have around 2,000.00 BUT halifax are ignoring requests to refund the money, even though they have sent a letter regarding the ppi refund to friend. But what she is most concerned about is that although the halifax main account is only in arrears by 30 pounds and is not being used[loan is repaid]she has a halifax credit card[account is in dispute and not being paid with a balance of more than 2,000.00.] Can halifax use the refund money to clear balance on the credit card account? Friend could really use the 2,000.00 to pay other bills etc and is worried that halifax could keep the money. any advice very gratefully received.
  15. Blackhorse are a law unto themselves, they make their own rules I am convinced. My own experience of them could write a book so I will be as brief as I can. Took out a loan in 2003 for 3000.00 with ppi consoildated loan in 2004 and borrowed 5990.00 with ppi. made regular payments untill last year when made some late payments, anyway lots of collection activity charges were added.original loan was for 60 months and rang blackhorse to find out what we owed last year and was told loan was now for 86 months !! this was the start of delving into the mysteries of blackhorse.I was told loan was extended due to arrears, charges and the fact we had taken payment breaks.according to them when you have a payment break 2 months are added to your loan!!........... we had also had something called "right backs" which also extended your loan.We did have a few payment breaks but we were never told what would happen to our loan and as for right backs Istill dont know what they are! I was so angry I went to see a Solicitor about blackhorse[it was a free half hour] I was told I would have a case against them ,one issue was the payment breaks not detailed in the agreement, and the ppi issue. ihavent got much further with challenging them as cant afford solicitor and its so complex to do myself. Ido want to take on black horse as they are an illegal bunch of crooks ,they must be making so much money out of all of us. sorry I have gone on a bit,I could say loads more but will stop now....
