Had a letter back today 21-07-06 from my letter dated 10th July asking for my £477 in charges back. They have refused on these lines:- "The OFT has commented that they consider the level of late payment charges to be unfair, however they were actually refering to late payment fees on credit card payments which are quite distinct from a bank's charges on current account's. As yet the OFT has not yet entered into any discussions with the banking industry regarding current accounts. However should that position change in the future then A & L will participate as appropriate. Given the above I cannot accept you have been unfairly charged as you suggest. I regret, therefore, that I am unable to agree to your request for a refund of charges on this occasion." Draver

I posted my dpa of around the 17th May 2006 if I give them till the 22nd May 2006 to have received it. That makes it way over the 40 days allowed. I posted a cheque for £10 with my request and I have had a letter back from them stating that they had recieved my request. I now report them to the information commissioner is there anything I need to know before I do that? draver

Received my dpa bank statements today from A&L. Charges for the time I had my account come to £477. They did charge me £25 a month for having an authorised overdraft, can these charges be claimed back. I'm thinking they can't is that correct? draver

Got a letter back today from Clydesdale Bank regarding my DPA letter for yorkshire bank statements. They have confirmed that they can provide me with the bank statements under the Data Protection act however they are not required to provide details of manual intervention on my account as in their words "This is not data which you are entitled to receive under a data subject access request and accordingly no such disclosure will be made". Interesting. I await my statements! draver -
Sent my DPA letter and £10 cheque of today by recorded delivery. Will wait and see what happens! Used my halifax account as a bills account a number of years ago. One month I was late transfering funds into the account and they didn't pay 8 direct debits and charged me around £200. When I complained they said they could only refund one of the charges as a goodwill gesture! Some goodwill they showed! draver

Sent my DPA letter and £10 cheque by recorded delivery today. Always found A&L to be a building society playing at being a bank. No flexibility on charges whatsoever. Will wait and see what they charged me! draver

I've just gone through my personal and business bank statements on my HSBC accounts and find that I have been charged £2826.5 in the last 6 years! I am unfortunately heavily in debt to HSBC. I have a business bank account with a loan of around £24k and a personal loan of around £12k. Can they just pull the plug on loans at their fancy or am I protected? I really would like to take them on but am a little concerned about the consequences! Advice and encouragement would be appreciated draver
