Penalty charges are only allowed to be the amount it actually costs the bank, and becuse a computer does it they do not incurr anything near the £30/35 they charge you for the pleasure!]...Oh i get it now....thanks,.... sorry to be a pain,... .....am off to read, re-read and digest the FAQ's ....i may be sometime.... Your help is very much appreciated:)

  8. Hello, Can anyone advise me please?... I have obtained my last 6 years statements from Abbey and have been charged during this time a total of £1,586 for things like clearing transactions/ unpaid directdebits...ect. I sent them a letter asking them to refund this money in view of it being excessive....I've today received a patronizing, dismissive letter from the Abbey saying amongst other things (quote) "We do not feel the charges are unfair, the terms and conditions detailed become applicable should you breach the terms of your account...the charges in question were prompted by requests for payment against insufficient funds... but as a good will gesture will waive £80 as a full and final settlement of your complaint"...... this i am told todo within 3 weeks or the offer will be withdrawn. I am told i can contact the FOS if i'm not happy with the decision. Ok, so what do i do next,...i feel abit intimidated. I knew this was'nt going to be easy but where do i stand?,.... if i contact the FOS are'nt they going to say " Yep, you did breach the terms of your account and those are the charges so yep, they stand"....i'm confused, what do i do next?...i don't really want to go down the route of taking Abbey to court,...i can't afford it!!....and i think i'm in the wrong by the sounds of it???? Help please next step??:-?
