About 12 years ago, I unluckily suffered two accidents at work, and as a result received compensation of about £10K in total. I underwent 2 spinal operations, but returned to work. Despite receiving a 20% industrial injuries award for life for impaired spinal function and other issues, I continued to work on.
In the last 6 months, I have been deemed unable to work by both my GP and the OH at work and have been off sick pending imminent medical retirement. It is unlikely that I will be able to work again due to mobility issues. Although nearing 50, I will receive a yearly life disablement pension from work, which will result in a drop of about a third of my present income.
I have tried looking at the Governement websites to see what benefits I may be entitled to, if any, apart from the Industrial Injuries benefit of £27+ per week I receive now. I have been for another medical today in respect of Industrial Injuries benefit and the medical practitioner mentioned it almost definite that the extent of my disability has increased.
Can anyone advise what other benefits I may be able to claim to supplement my income. I have already had to change my car to a bigger one due to mobility issues, and I may also have to look for a ground floor property due to problems with stairs.
Thanks to all.
