  1. Nope, their 3 priorities are 1. To make you pay no matter what. 2.To make you pay under any circumastances and means. 3. Use immorral and illegal procedures. What they dont like is a member of the public who has researched the relevant information to substantiate their claims and to fight back....
  2. one message would have been ample to put your point accross. when dealing with DCA's, it is bestto remain professional as this will further increase your chances of doing battle with them so to speak.
  3. Hm, can't seem to find the template for sending to bcw regarding doorstep calls. Basically you have a legal right to withdraw your permission for them (BCW) or any other DCA to turn up on your doorstep without your permission. The letter states that under English Common Law, you withdraw that right legal right and do not wish to make any appointments for doorstep calls. Also, it states that they are breaking a Law of Tort, (I believe) and that (in the event they do turn up) you do not have to acknowledge them at all, in fact just give them the template. Also, tell the "doostep caller" that they are trespassing and if they don't leave, you will call the police and say there is likely to be a breach of the peace. Sorry I can't find it, it is on my memory stick at home, so can email it to you if you can't find it. Sorry cant be of more help.
  4. never been called "luv" before..lol as I am of the male gender!!..On lunch now so I'll have a look and try and post the link in this thread...the letter has all this included. I'll have a look and post it here for you...
  5. BCW are notorious for using scare tactics. Have a look around and find the template letter for doorstop visits. As you are probably not aware, under English common law you have the right to only accept or allow a postman and folks asking for directions onto your property. Find the letter, send it off to them, DO NOT talk to them on the telephone, send BCW the a letter also on here, asking to be only contacted in writing. Play harball with BCW...
  6. other half has just gone with welcome car credit, but got 10% finance the lowest is 7%. Probably stay with them for 2 years then trade in the car as the mileage is low. They have promised a car body part but not yet recieved it (in my ex life i was a vehicle technician) so waiting on them for this...
  7. Just another quickie before I go, BCW called my fiance's mum and asked her where her daugher lived and a contact number...is this a breach of data protection as some debts are crawling out of the woodwork on a previous address for utilities..I want proof that she does owe this money, I also have played hardball on her behalf and BCW are absolute G**ts to deal with...have an appt with cccs on friday about this and others...
  8. Same as me last night, to reliable collections, they changed my agreement without prior consent, levied on £12 charge for late payment and insisted I Pay. So, opened folder with details on what to say from this and other forums, quoted cca etc...and said it was illegal for me to record the conversation! Umm, no it isnt, then hung up....i did smile....
  9. I have an appt with cccs this friday in regards to a few dca's. I also have managed to get hold of credit file so I know who I the debtors are plus all relevant dates. I have found their advice really helpful. I also read this site on a daily basis and print off a lot of the sites that are linked.
  10. Unless there are manufacturers reccomendations that the sesor be changed at the same time as the head gasket, then I am afraid they can hit you with another bill. I am taking my car to a dealers soon for servicing as it is the 1st new (ish) car we have owned (4 years old in nov 08). I carry out servicing on my other car as it costs a fortune in a dealer (Range Rover Classic) plus the service book doesnt really matter ona car of this age. I am meticulous into what is carried out and always (a good thing to do) take note of all things to be changed i.e cambelt, oil/oil filter etc, MARK them with indelible pens...when u get hme, CHECK them..a bit retentive I know, but you have the garage by the Blks!! Just a bit of advice (Mech Eng by trade but now in higher education)
  11. Take it back and demand it be fixed or they will incurr the cost of a hire car/service car for the duration your car is off the road at the gartage, the onus is on them to sort it out.
  12. Hi Alex, coil packs can fail at any time, they r a real pain, the old points type distributor was far easier, thats y I have older cars! Range Rover is 21 yrs old and Sierra xr4x4 is 15 yrs old! Although have to say, looking around for a Subaru Imprezza, just chacking insurance and taxation first..
  13. As it is difficult to establish and diagnose faults on message boards, I very much doubt as to spark plugs would cause a vehicle to stop. My Range Rover has trouble with wrong temperature plugs only starting on a cold morning or if not used for a while. Once the engine is running (although someties only on one bank of the V8!) they do catch and warm up. Ask for a full fault diagnosis and ask to see the spark plugs, have a look on t'internet for pics on how they should look. Does the vehicle start first thing? If it does, again, this can rule out plugs, have you been low on fuel? May have clogged up filtering system...how old is the vehicle? Sorry to go on, but it is slightly difficult to try and diagnose blindly..
  14. Afernoon, I have a meeting tomorrow morning with my boss (cant name names or company) and it is to do with the use of email at work (internal) it seems that I am being constantly harrassed by a member of staff and things only happen when i am off on holiday or sick leave. One member of staff even called peronbell to ask about my contrct, he got told and has in effect reported me for leaving at 4pm ona friday instead of 4-30 (37 hr week) I have been here for nearly 2 years and everything was fine until this member of staff joined. I have now got permission from management after fighting my case due to family issues. I asked for the flexi time policy to be considered and was refused, I am now looking for alternative employment. For some reason the person making probelms for me has the backing of the team leader and his manager (cant name hierachy either for fear of retribution) been called in on 2 occasions by the boss to explain my sickness, one was a cold, 2nd was a contagious disease (cant name it as fear of retribution!). I do know by the area union rep the turnover of staff is 48%. I loved the job at first but now have started becoming upset and taking things out on my family as I have no other means of dealing with it at work. The colleague! who has been causing me to be under stress loves confrontations and arguments. He will not however, go to a meeting with me and the union rep plus management. Please help as I am going to hand in my notice soon if things continue..seeing someone tomorrow evening about another job..
  15. True. Plus if you sell a car privatley, the buyer will spot a good car to a complete howler. I have had offers on my Range Rover in Tesco's car park and she is 21 yrs old but is immaculate, I even bought a new headlining for her off ebay..other half thinks I am mad..on my own today as booked an extra day off...
  16. ps my Range Rover broke their rolling road..oh dear!
  17. Kwik fit, yeah, had a problem with them. Got an offer of 50% off for an MOT, so I took my Ford Sierra XR4x4 2.9i for her MOT. Flew through year before and only covered about 2000 miles annually. HAd a call saying the car had failed on braking. SHock, horror and disbelief as a young lad tore in the car park with another staff member, laughing their heads off. I was with my mate at the time and I was going to tear them apart! They had been for a jolly and the new tyres had been well and truly tested, also I had made a note of the mileage prior to leaving the car there. 26 miles later I asked for an explanation. The tester had put the car on the rolling road for a brake test (this happened while I was there) as he was explaining to me about the brake test, i asked if they were going to throw in new transmission and a new diff? MOT man asked why, I suggested he looked at the V5 and details of my vehicle. Permanent 4WD on a rolling road..not a good idea...the road test had been used for thrashing my beloved classic car (still have her) and I complained to the depot. Got an apology and compensation for the hammering of my car..(4 brand new Pirellis!) for the car which lasted for the next few thousand miles (ahem!)..lol
  18. On the servicing point of things, I am lucky in most of the vehicles I own or my fiance owns or has owned, I service the vehicle ,myself, including cam belts etc..I used to highlight parts that should be changed for friends of my fiance (being schoolteachers, single and female) they were taken advantage of. My advice, never trust a car salesman, they are all in it for the sale! I know most males do know more than females, although we have a female engineer at work who is just as good as the guys..The original full service history should still be available by the salesman, if it isn't, then he sold the car without being able to substantiate the claims of a fsh (full service history). Our current commuting vehicle is a Seat Ibiza 1.9 diesel, bought it last year for £100! Yup, 100 smackers, opened engine bay had a good look around, started from cold with hardly any smoke, MOT'd (needed a windscreen-Insurance, plus had 2 new tyres abour 3 weeks ago..) although just got back from a Vw dealership..took a fancyto a Golf TDi! Other vehcile is a 1987 Range Rover 3.5 V8i used for ferrying my 2 labs back from (very muddy) walks and shoots. £350 with new tyres all round and passed MOT no problem. Expensive to run, yes, but saves car getting dirty...plus use RR for paid work (towing car trailers, moving heavy items etc..so it is also a workhorse..any more advice, you know where I am, have tomorrow off as well, wohoo!!..
  19. If I told you I serviced a car to the letter but didnt have the service history, would you still buy the car? Doubt it, so why trust a salesman? I went along with my fiance when she bought her car from a dealership and the handbrake failed whilst she was pregnant. Mechanic gave her a cock n bull story as she was a female, I turned up with her following day. Insisted the handbrake was not faulty, I then asked for an engineer's report to susbtantiate their claim, I volunteered as I was a mechanical engineer working at a local college (in the mech eng dept, still there till management force me out!) another story,,,lol handbrake adjusted there and then after my occupation was given by fiance..now there's a suprise..
  20. I have had my fair dealings with Virgin over broadband. A real pain they were, signed up in October 07, had conncetion problems and no service over Jan and Feb 08. So asked for a MAC as I said they had failed to provide me with the service I was paying for. Waited a week, no contact, called BT about broadband, line checked and was clear, no MAC needed. Not heard anything from virgin at all. Have a great contact at BT who sorts out everything. Wiped £189 from our bill, got £11-79 disconnection charge back. Even got broadband service running before easter weekend as mentioned I wanted to go on my xbox 360 (live) got hme, tried xbox, on straightaway! Now that is service and also got a follow up email to say broadband was enabled...leave virgin well alone!
