  1. Yes he is. I'm a little concerned really but I don't want to make too big an issue of it without knowing for sure...I just worry for the elderly relative involved but can't understand why someone would say they're a solicitor if it's that easily checked?! Also they're trying to charge for their services etc. Thank you very much for all your advice.
  2. Thanks mm69; I have done exactly that, and again using your link, but they're not listed....bizarre.
  3. Thank you sillygirl, I really appreciate it. I will get the letter and scan it in as soon as possible.
  4. Thanks for all the responses. I don't have a company name—if there is one—but I have checked that I can find others via the 'find the solicitor' link (even though they are employed by companies) and I can...I cannot find this person though and it's worrying as they're offering assistance to a vulnerable member of my family and I'm a little concerned.
  5. It's actually an individual rather than a company but I cannot find any listing of them whatsoever. I'd rather not post their name unless I'm absolutely sure they're not legit. Thank you very much for looking and responding though. Do you/does anyone know whether they should be listed on the 'find a solicitor' option on the law society (or anywhere else?) if they're legit? Thank you
  6. Hello, I am hoping that someone can answer this question for me. Is there somewhere I can check a solicitor's qualifications? I have tried to search on the law society's website but I cannot find any listing for them; does anyone know of anywhere else they should be listed? Thank you
  7. Hello I received a letter from Cabot informing me that I owed money to a catalogue company...but I've never had an account with that company. So, I sent a request for a cca and they sent me back one which just has my name and address typed at the top and no signature. Since then I've remember that they initially told me that this debt was from a previous address that I'd lived at (still not mine though) and yet they send the cca with my current address on...? The other thing is that I've remember that I did apply for an account with this company online and then this happened...can anyone help? Cabot are calling me from 8am in the morning all day and I've asked them not to-they ignore me. I've also told them that the CCA looks suspicious and I will get back to them as I don't believe the debt to be mine. I don't really know what to do though. The CCA obvioudly isn't mine as I've never had an account with the catalogue company so unsure of where to go next. Would be really grateful for any advice. Thank you
  8. Thank you so much curlyben. I think that should definitely do the trick! I will send it off today. Thank you
  9. Hi, I've today received a letter from a debt collection agency (CCS) informing me that I owe The Carphone Warehouse £238.99 and basically pay up or else. I've had no luck trying to talk to them, and get any further info, on the phone so I said that I will put everything in writing from this point on. Do they have to provide me with any further info on this bill as they don't appear to think they do! I don't think I owe this money as I paid the final phone bill on our last property (which they're telling me it relates too) the week after we moved. I'd be grateful for any advice. I have looked round the forums but wondered at the difference as this is supposed to relate to a phone bill....? Thank you.
