  4. During an early stage of the claiming process has anyone thought about or gone ahead and "suspended" or closed their account? that is to say open a new one and just make some payments to the Halifax account to reduce the overdraft? in effect it keeps it open but you stop banking with them?
  5. thank you mercedes! given the fact that they cannot even get my statements to me yet I will go with email as the option I think, although as they are so obviously inept at dealing with one request and keep sending me duplicate letters and not actually actioning my request! maybe when the time comes they will pay me back twice........
  6. Monday 22nd May 2006 I have received yet another Letter from the Halifax.........Thank you for your recent request, blah blah blah.......yours sincerely Janelle Birnie (oh please) printed signature...... anyway they are acknowleging my request again, I am now getting p'd off with them......its my third. I have already received some statements! onwards and upwards.:-|
  7. thanks ! I will keep you posted, once I have decided on which way to go.........I am still waiting for the previous 5 years statements, they only sent recent ones so far. marvellous.....
  8. its a good point. thank you. but - I work in IT by the way, an automated reply can be used as evidence as accepted correspondence and as a date stamp for starting processes rolling. having dealt with FOI and DPA requests at work for those people who have nowt better to do!!!! I am wondering if maybe technology can be used as a fast track to successful claims.
  9. In todays world what is the benefit of using recorded post for letters as opposed to sending emails with attached letters to make claims? is there anyone who has had a quicker success with using electronic means to make their claim?
  10. Just checked my online banking today, they have taken the £5 for the statements out (which is ok i prefer them too) but this has sent me over my overdraft limit by £2.23 (I pretty much use the account as a bills account so most of the monthly income is accounted for) I wonder if they will charge.....? They had originally said that the charged would be waived.......at least they accept the original request now......once the remaining statements arrive its action time! happy hunting people.
  11. I had a lengthy conversation with halifax over their policy on processing cheques.........I am told "when you write a cheque it is cleared immediately the date it is banked by the corresponding bank".....ie I give a cheque to a school for music fees for my son for £78 2 days before pay day, the school banks it the next day and it clears immediately from my bank, over the odraft and £30 charge......so I challenged them why it is that when I pay a cheque into the bank it takes up to 5 working days to clear into my bank? even when the cheque i receive is from a halifax customer..........they were not able to answer my question........so people my advice is be very aware that the banks do their own thing..........now I will think of something to tell you that we dont already know. Power to the People8)
  12. so no additional statements have arrived today, so a phone call has been made to Halifax, spoke to a nice, confused man, who said the letter acknowledging my request has been posted yesterday, erm no I received 19 months statements already..............so he says, "oh I see so , oh what I mean is the statements are all posted yesterday, ALL 6 years worth........ok so why have I received the last 19 months worth this week? ........ "not sure sir, admin error" sigh..........and I have still got hope of getting my money back? I guess on a positive note at least its being dealt with.
  13. in total 15 months worth arrived totalling £341 in charges excluding interest for that period Oct05-May06...........I guess I have a few envelopes left to arrive!!!
  14. UPDATE well the door was wedged with 10 envelopes today, statements have arrived, some from 2004, some from 2006, some from 2005, but its a start, I am a bit disappointed I didnt get my envelope with all of them in, is this delaying tactics? or should I expect the rest in the next few days? I am just about to start calculating what I have to date, fingers crossed the rest arrive in the next 2 days (as promised) but I will not hold my breath. onwards and upwards
