It was for an overpayment from my council, for housing benefit. At the time I was off work ill, so they paid my rent, then decided that I shouldn't have got it for some reason. I didn't deal with it at the time, because I was still ill. Then a year and a half later i get a demand from Newlyn to pay it back. I did phone the council before contacting Newlyn, and they said I cant dispute because of the time that had passed, and they said I have to pay Newlyn. I dont recall getting more than one letter from the council about the overpayment. Anyway I panicked a bit and agreed to pay Newlyn a weekly amount. They havent added any charges. I have 2 other debts I think, with southern electric and virgin media. Both I think are with debt companies. I had a heart attack recently and I'm back on benefits because of this, I'm already paying back 2 debts to my council, and cant afford to pay back anymore at this time.

Hi I believe a DCA has passed my details onto another DCA. According to the OFT DCA guidance, "passing on debtor details to debt management companies without the debtors' informed prior consent" is "Deceptive and/or unfair." After agreeing to pay back a debt with Newlyns plc, another DCA contacted me by phone 4 days later. The phone number that Newlyn had to contact me is not registered in my name and is not listed in the phone book, yet amazingly, another debt company got hold of this phone number, I dont think thats coincidence. Is there anything I can do about this? Its probably hard to prove.
