  3. im not trying to be a smart arse, but just so the letters your sending are worded correctly, nationwide is a mutual company and doesnt have shareholders, Maybe you could ask in you letter 'for all charges, plus any pending to be refunded?' Nationwides charges work by hitting you a/c 2 months after they are incurred, so for example if a direct debit bounces in jan, you will get charged for it in march
  4. i suppose i can and if the 'putting a moral spin' comment was aimed at me too.... look through every post i have made, and nowhere have i said that bank charges are moral or something banks/buliding societies should do. i 100% disagree with nearly all the charges are made to ppl, the only time when i will agree with them is when someone is purposely abusing their a/c (like garantueeing cheques got £100 each day at cash convertors which i see so much )
  5. Last year my partner and i brought a tv from comet! While going through all the paper work with the man that was serving us, we were told we would recieve the bill in 5-6 weeks time. and to my dismay in the 6 weeks we did recieve the bill, which had been put on to a comet store card that charges 28.9% APR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now luckily as we paid it straight off we did not have to pay any extra interest and recieved an apologetic letter to the complaint we made! But surely this must be illegal without the persons consent??
  6. Dave....i just tried to send u a PM apologising, and asking if i can be number 4? But got told it was full also And as the saying goes, when you've had a bad experience with a company/service ect that is the one that you are going to tell people about. And i admit, at times i hear collegues on the phone being rude or just plain not interested and i wonder how they keep their jobs. But not EVERY employee is like this, a lot of us do go the extra mile to help people. and just for the record, i am not sticking up for the company! but there are ppl there that will try the best they can to help! and unfortunately when u work for a company that has over 1700 employees, one small voice isnt going to get heard, or even 20 of u together but i know i do the best i can everyday (even when im getting sworn down the phone)
  7. xxdiddiexx... i understand your points entirely.... The reason i asked the question is not aiming at anyone whos ever recieved a charge on a a/c.... i should explain my posistion more clearly My posistion is a debt collector on current a/c's (what a joyful career ) And every day i see accounts where for 18 months direct debits have been bouncing, there is a large amount of charges, which have given the a/c an overdrawn balance, but no contact has ever been recieved from the customer, and that is when i wonder how people could let the matter get that far At the end of the day, i have to do the job im paid to do, but if i could, i'd refund you all! hehe
  8. I am actually a she And as you say, i am not here to offend anyone, or cause argument, i am genuinely intrigued by this matter.
  9. Checking statements has everything to do with it, because thats where your charges are notified
  10. I'm a new member and unfortunately going to make myself unpopular straightaway.... I'm an employee of Nationwide, I work in Lending Control, and i deal with accounts that are overdrawn due to bank charges. Now, i'm with many of you, and i don't agree with these charges and i wouldn't be happy if i recieved some of the letters i have to send. But one thing i do question every day is why do so many of you leave the problem until you owe hundreds of pounds? Do you not check you bank statements? I realise some people don't recieve their statements due to incorrect address's, but is it not your responsibilty to update them???
