If the debt is over 6 years old and has not been acknowledged in that time then it is statute barred and can not be collected.
From the links provided above it looks like Midas are connected to Morecroft DCA.
Have a look in the debt forums on here and you'll find lots of other threads regarding Midas.

You should forget all about this from now and never let it into your mind ever again.
If anything is said in the future just deny the whole thing. You are so obviously sorry for what you did and I have no doubt you won't ever want to put yourself through that again.
I must agree with LG. I can't believe they went to all that effort to send the police round. Ridiculous!

As you left the store while the staff were still looking for the tag then its obvious that they were not sure whether you had attempted to steal the coat or not. As they have the coat back and have lost nothing they will more than likely choose to let it go as the cost in time and man power to track you down would be massive in comparrison to the loss they might have suffered.
Its just an oppinion based on the fact it would be a waste of resources considering the possible benefits to them should they track you down.
I'd say don't shop there in future and don't break the law again!

This is not a company I would recommend. Have a look at this link for some examples of how they operate.

The 0844 number they have costs 5p per minute. After 2 attempts at calling them and being kept on hold for 25 minutes plus, both times, only for the line to go dead, I am less than happy at the moment.
