  1. Me and the family emigrated to Canada back in February this year, I gave blood for the last 22 years (just shy of my 50th donation - although they gave me the 50th donation 'thank you' set, knowing it was my last time). Because I live in a different country now, I am not allowed to give blood here, and if we ever returned to the UK, I would not be allowed to give blood there, as I have lived outside of the UK for over 6 months. Crazy really. I am also a HUGE fan of the 'everyone is opted in, until you opt out' organ donation policy they are talking about (but think got thrown out)!!
  2. Hiya - Chris here DMD's brother..... Well, I have not given, although I have got to the 2nd stage testing twice, each time though, I have NOT been an exact match, this was through Anthony Nolan Trust. I have also been through 2nd stage testing for platelette donations, again though, I was a good match on first look, but alas again, it was not meant to be. I would love to have been a match to be able to do what I opted in to do, I am sad that it never happenend. I applaud anyone who has the chance to do it, to save someones life, and make a difference. If you have the chance, take it with both hands and change a families life. Cheers Chris.
  3. Hi all, The Mrs has been ill for over a week and asked me to come home yesterday, she went to Drs as she's had Pneumonia before and had to go into hospital, they didn't want this to develop. So, she has to rest and not go out, which means I have to stay off and look after both her and the children (5 and 10). My boss thinks I am taking the P, which I never do and I am dissapointed with his attitude. Anyway, following is his reply to my 'I have to stay home (but will still work) and look after the wife and kids': It’s about the rules on what happens when someone has time off that isn’t their own illness. To avoid a precedent (and me losing staff every time someone in their family is ill or whatever) this should officially go down as holiday. ENDS. I thought fathers had some rights when stuff like this happens? Am I wrong?
  4. Cheers for that, I did indeed do what you mentioned, I said the 6 months was unreasonable, their response was 'it was there as a safeguard for me', regardless though, I negotiated it down to 3 months.
  5. Hi all, I have just been given a contract of employment for the first time (along with other member of the company), I have worked for this company for 7 + years. 99% of it is fine, but there is a bit in it I am not at all comfortable about. Notice period. Basically, they are asking me to sign to 6 months notice , is this legal? I would happily sign to 3 months, but not sure where I stand with them. I have to discuss any 'issues' with the boss before signing and I would like to be for armed before I raise my concern. Hope you can help? Cheers in advance. Chris
  6. Hi all, I have received my ream or paper with my last 6 years of statements, made very interesting reading, I spend all last night trawling through every sheet and there are £410 worth of charges I will ask back. Now, a part of the the 2nd letter states 'I calculate that you have taken £XXXX plus £XXX which you have charged me in overdraft interest for the sum which you have taken. ' How do I calculate the overdraft interest? I hope someone can help? Thanks in advance Chris.
