  1. Caro, there are many factors that can affect this sort of issue with a laptop's adapter. Have you definitely set the Voltage on the new adapter to 20V? All I did was plug it in. So, did you see if the sales assistant set the device to the correct Voltage? Did he/she even mention anything about this to you?! If so, then try setting it to 19V and try again. How do I set it? Load the product link you posted in #3 and click on 'Download Manuals' on the left of the product information page. Download the 'Quick install manual' at the top of the table shown, which will open a PDF file. There is a round part to the device, which has a dial for setting the correct Voltage, as shown in Diagram 1 - Find your laptop's Voltage. What about the tip, are you sure you're using the correct tip size for your laptop's power socket? It fits very well so I thought it was ok. Is the old adapter the original laptop one or an old replacement? An old replacement. Is your laptop's power socket 'loose' in any way when you connect the adapter's tip into it - the old or new one? The new one seems better than the old one which had a tendency to fall out quite easily. The new one seems more secure. Does the light on the new adapter come on when plugged into the mains? Yes You state that the adapter worked in the store, but how did you test this? Was there an exact same model open in the store or just another adapter? The sales assistant asked if I'd definitely buy it if it worked and when I said yes he plugged it into my lappy. The power light flashed amber as it usually does when charging so I thought it was ok. You can also double-check the correct ratings for your laptop (i.e. Voltage & AMP) on the battery and the bottom of your laptop (if still visible) just to make sure what Voltage you should set the new adapter to. Rgds.

  2. What does that mean?????? I think what diskmandave is suggesting is that if you keep parking your car in the same place and ignoring tickets, they may move on (legally or illegally) to clamping or removing your car. From experience on these forums when this happens, the PPC not only keep your car until a release fee is paid, but also until you stump up payment for each and every one of the "outstanding" invoices.

  3. Hello there, You'll need to amend your self-managed DMP to include these Payday loan firms also. When you contact the Payday lenders be sure to instruct them that you remove their 'continuous payment authority' as this should prevent them from having the right to take money directly from a debit card. You may find greater peace of mind by switching your current account to someone new, this is known as having a 'safe' account. We're really gald that you've found our materials useful, if you ever need any further help and support feel free to drop us a line. 4. I went onto Quidco to check if two hotels I had booked during the week had tracked. When I was on I noticed £4 cashback for a "Free eye test" from Optical Express. I was due an eye test back in February, but had been quite busy and never got round to it, and realistically I probably need reading glasses for the new phone I have - so I filled in the details and the called me today to arrange the appointment (the time I picked online was not available). Anyway - they went through all my details, and then in what sounded like a sprint to cover T&Cs they mentioned "Free eye test subject to purchase" - which does not really seem like free to me. I pointed out in Scotland eye tests are free - and asked why it should be "subject to purchase" - and they advised they did not realise I was in Scotland - this after just taking my address - and booking an appointment in Scotland. Nothing in Quidco mentions the "subject to..." bit. I have no intention of buying from them - as in the UK they must furnish you with your prescription but are permitted to withhold your PD (the distance between your pupils), so you can get glasses elsewhere. I already know my PD its 69 and excepting major trauma its unlikely to change. So it might be worth getting more details if you consider taking up this offer. http://www.quidco.com/optical-express-free-eye-test/

  5. Hi MissSigh, If you know for sure that no one who you know (family or friend) could have made the purchases, you must get the card replaced as your security has been compromised. Even if Barclays Fraud Dep't won't investigate with a view to a refund, they must recognise that the card security may have been compromised.

  6. I take it you haven't got the statements either? You could try a SAR but the passage of time may be against you. When was the account closed? ims

  7. Hi, The situation is that the debt can now be collected as a deduction from any means tested benefits and state pensions but the amounts are strictly controlled and must not put a person in to hardship. Have you at anytime paid anything off this overpayment? When was the HB stopped and investigated? I ask because these debts become statute barred after 6 years if no payment or written acknoledgment has been made. Debt collection agencies employed by the DWP have no extra rights or authority than they have in chasing any other debt. Ultimately and decision will be made by an official at the DWP. These agencies are subject to the Official Secrets Act in the same way as civil servants, and all their letters are vetted by the DWP and they are subject to an official audit of their work. You need to complete the I&E form and provide written evidence of your disabilities. Make sure the amount you are already paying is clearly stated, as said the deductions are strictly controlled.

  12. Hi Right I think we can take a good stab at this. If the copy statements show the rates of interest then work out what the average rate is. If the rate is shown as a monthly rate then work out the average of the monthly rate and pop that rate into this spreadsheet and it will work out the APR based on a monthly rate. MonthlyToAPR.xls You will need the APR to enter into the main spreadsheet which is attached below. If you don't have the rates on the copy statements you are going to have to have a stab at working it out. Add up the total interest you have been charged for the month. Divide it by the total opening balance on the statement and multiply the result by 100. Make a note of that percentage figure. Do the same for a random sample of six statements and you can then work out the average rate. Pop that into the spreadsheet above to give the estimated APR and use that in the main spreadsheet. Use the main spreadsheet below to reconstruct the account. Follow the instructions in the sheet. If the balance is split into three items, add them together to give on figure and use that where the reference in the sheet is to the balance figure. Add up the total transactions for the month including PPI, Interest, cash withdrawals and anything else and use that figure as the total spend for the month. Enter the amount repaid for the month. Where it asks for the PPI amount, add up the three charges for PPI and enter those as one figure. When complete you will have the best estimate of a reconstructed account and the potential PPI award will be shown in the spreadsheet. Go along to the fos website and grab a copy of the consumer questionnaire and complete it. Send a copy of the spreadsheet and consumer questionnaire to Barclays together with a brief letter requiring refund. They will have 8 weeks to investigate and give you a final decision before you can pass it to fos to deal with. FosRunningPPI v101.xls ims
