  1. Some time ago on renewing buildings insurance, when asked about state of repair, I mentioned to my insurer (and another company I had asked to quote) a long standing crack in a detached outbuilding (not the house) which I said was stable and showing no movement. They said they wanted more information before quoting for the renewal/cover, and that they would refer to their underwriters. Before either made a decision I actually obtained a better quote elsewhere (with full disclosure, obviously). I wrote to the two companies saying that was the case, and that I did not want to pursue the applications with them. Some time on, I am now obtaining quotes for another completely unconnected house. I am being asked the standard question "have you ever been refused or declined insurance". My view is that neither company declined cover, as I withdrew the application before a decision was made (or at least notified to me). At the same time, they didn't actually offer me cover either! Can I safely answer "no" to the question about having insurance declined? Confused!
  2. I have had my recent car insurance voided from inception by Direct Line and I am not happy with this as I have been given incorrect information by my previous insurers which has contributed to this happening. Here is a background to what has happened. I purchased car insurance from Octagon insurance on 12/11/2012 and at that time had 5 years NCB not protected. During this policy I had a fault accident on 31/10/2013 which I notified them of and had no further communication on the matter. I requested proof of my no claims some time after the policy had ended as my car was off the road at the time and I wanted to re insure the car. The document they sent me stated I had 6 years NCB not protected so it looked like no claim had been made as my NCB was not reduced. On the 4/6/14 I purchased insurance through the broker Sure Thing, the insurer was Highway. I had a fault accident on the 23/6/14 which I notified them of and had no further communication regarding this. I had my renewal come through from Sure Thing for the 4/6/15 and my NCB not protected had now increased to 7 years so I decided to renew. The following 12 months were incident free and I received my renewal for 4/6/16 and it stated I now had 8 years NCB, my renewal price from Sure Thing had increased so I decided to get some quotes online. After going on a few comparison sites and the Direct Line site I decided to purchase a policy from Direct Line starting on 4/6/16. On the application I put in the 8 years NCB and the at fault accidents/no claims made. As my NCB was not affected surely this means there could not of been any claims was what I thought. On the 12/08/2016 I received a letter from Direct Line asking me to contact them due to discrepancies in the information I have provided to what they have obtained. So I phoned the policy validation number and the man basically said there were claims for both incidents. He then accused me of knowing about this as I had done some quotes on comparison sites with a claim made which they had track of. I did do various quotes but this was purely out of curiosity to see what the price would have been if claims had of been made. I can see how this looks and they have now used this against me. On the 22/08/16 I had a text message from Direct Line saying that my car insurance with them is now declared void from inception. So Octagon and Sure thing have provided me with incorrect information and Direct Line have now voided my insurance as they think it was done deliberately. I still have the paperwork from Octagon and Sure Thing to show my NCB increasing from 6 years to 8 years with it not being reduced which is what would of usually happened if a claim was made and successful. As it stands I now have a void policy and I am unsure what the status of my NCB paperwork is now. If I had been given the correct information from my previous insurers then this would not have happened. This seems very unfair and unreasonable to me and I need some help and advice on where to go from here.
  3. Hello, Bit of background. In Jan 2015 someone went into the side of my commercial van and he admitted fault and mine was all fixed. The van is used for my business. I have a separate car insurance policy and just renewed it 3 weeks ago, and they have sent a letter in stating that my car insurance is increasing £100 because of a no fault claim that i had in the van and not disclosed it. So is it correct that the Non fault claim on my commercial van insurance still affects my car insurance even although its two different policies? Thanks
  4. Don't bother with Saga Insurance. They send me letters offering low car insurance. Initially they quoted £151 for fully comprehensive on my old Citroen Picasso 1.6 petrol vehicle. My car insurance is due for renewal at the end of August. I phoned Saga today to check the initial quote. They now quote £409 and said sorry for the increase compared to their initial quote. I then obtained a quote from the AA which was £152. OK so if you get any letters from Saga offering low insurance, either bin them.
  5. We had a flood in the upstairs bathroom which has also come through the downstairs. Called the insurance company and they appointed a loss adjuster. After four days we still had not heard from the loss adjuster so called the insurer back. They said they would email him and get him to contact us but after another two days we still have had no contact from them. Phoned insurer again and got a mobile number for the loss adjuster plus they said they would also contact him. Have tried to call the mobile 3 times but just goes onto an answer machine. The insurance company is regulated by the FSA. Is there any time limits that they need to adhere to ? thanks
  6. Hi Caggers, My wife was recently in a car accident. Fortunately no-one was hurt but we`re now in a situation where the other party is denying fault and we`ve been stuck with having to pay the excess of £75. The accident happened down a single lane country road. My wife saw the other car approaching a came to a halt. However, the other driver had the sun in their eyes and was distracted, pulling the sun-visor down on the passenger-side for their child. The other driver failed to notice my wife`s stationary car and, although tried to brake, hit the side/front of the car causing damage to the bumper/wing/bonnet. The other driver got out and apologised to my wife, they swapped details, and both went on their way. Later that day I phoned the drivers partner, to start the insurance process rolling, who offered to pay for the damage by going through their recommended garage. I wouldn`t have been happy to do this anyway, but my hand was forced as our car is leased meaning we have to go through the authorised repair procedure/garages etc. All repairs have been done but we had to pay £75 excess which I was expecting to be able to reclaim. I`ve just spoken to the insurance company and they`re claiming that the other party is denying responsibility for the accident, and as the accident was on a single-track road, they`re going to go 50/50 meaning we`ll not be able to claim the excess back. As you can imagine I`m rather annoyed. I`m hoping that this is just a tactic that insurance companies try to save costs rather that the other party being dishonest and lying about the events. Obviously I`m disputing this. Could anyone advise me on the best course of action to take please so that I can have a better chance of getting the £75 back. Many thanks, Paul4Lena
  7. Hi, Can anyone recommend a good home insurance policy with legal cover add on. I have a lot of employment issues at work mainly disability related and want to make sure I'm covered in case I ever need to take legal action. Or is there a stand alone legal policy available which I can buy. Any advice would be much appreciated Cheers Dex
  8. Thought i might start a thread just to raise this issue, as it has been in the media recently. If you own a home or business in an area where fracking is to take place, please do contact your Insurers to make sure that you are covered, if anything happens. Do not assume that because your policy includes say subsidence that your Insurers will automatically offer assistance. There might be general exclusions used where Insurers decide that government have responsibility as they licenced the fracking. They might view it in the same way as government took some responsibility via National Coalboard for subsidence near mine workings. If you own a business the implications are possibly more extensive. For example, a business that uses water to operate, will be hugely impacted by contamination and/or disruption of the water supply. If you search online you will find information on this. One report from the north east of England where they had earth tremors caused by fracking, suggested that an Insurance Brokers found most Insurers would not cover fracking related problems, with only one company RSA at an increased premium able to offer cover. There is conflicting information on whether Insurers will accept claims under the normal standard perils stated in policies. You might think this is not a big issue to worry about and hopefully nothing will happen. Some say that fracking is unlikely to cause any major issues and environmental nuts are stirring up worries. Others point to problems in parts of the US where there have been tremors caused and contamination of water supply. The UK is a small island and homes/businesses will be closer to mining operations. If your Insurers confirm that they will cover any issues relating to fracking, please do get it in writing and keep letters received somewhere safe.
  9. The PPI mis-selling scandal has dogged the banking world for a long time now, and bothered everyone with a variety of spam messages and mithering claims companies. Now, it looks like we might have another mis-selling scandal, thanks to the insurance world. The FCA think that insurance agents have potentially mis-sold policies to consumers, as well as falsifying documents, faking signatures, and sold products to people that will never, ever pay out. The Financial Conduct Authority has been looking into all this, and said that their study of 15 insurance firms and the agents found widespread examples of poor practice. They've also found companies that have failed to discipline an agent after they'd spotted their mis-selling deeds, and their falsification of customer documentation. Other discoveries showed agents selling travel insurance to people with medical conditions, which aren't covered by the policy they ended up with. As such, the FCA have given the insurance world a chance to sort themselves out, and ordered 'Section 166 reviews' on two companies, which means tha they'll have to pay for an independent firm to come in and review the way they do things. Another two companies have been told to stop all sales activities. Sadly the FCA haven't named anyone in all this. "General insurance is a large and important sector and we are concerned about the potential for customer detriment arising from the lack of oversight of appointed representatives," Jonathan Davidson, FCA director of supervision, said in a statement. "All principal firms need to consider these findings and look again at their practices." We wouldn't be surprised if there's compensation coming the way of people who have been mis-sold, in yet another headache for the UK's financial sector. http://www.bitterwallet.com/insurance/fca-find-mis-selling-in-insurance-92730
  10. I signed up for a year of cover on a washer dryer and have just found out that they have been taking the payments since 2011 without me realising or indeed authorising it. I spoke to them and they were incredibly unhelpful - a rude and arrogant woman on the phone who said that they were not regulated by anyone and fundamentally they could do what they liked. They claim to have been sending me renewal notices each year which I have not received - I moved property so cannot verify this. Their main line of defence is that when they sent the first renewal letter it said that unless you cancel then it will automatically renew. I cannot believe that this is allowed?!? Can anyone please help me claim my hundreds of pounds back? I could have purchased about 3 new machines now for the amount they have charged!!! Any help greatly appreciated.
  11. Young woman driver's £11,500 car insurance quote almost six times value of her car A young driver was horrified when her car insurance quote was a massive £11,500 a year - nearly six times the value of her car. Naomi Bowler was stunned to be told the premium on her £1,700 Peugeot 206 would be £1107.72 a month - with a deposit of £1,923.66 - but Aviva have defended the quote. The 19-year-old used to be insured at a cost of £96 a month using black box to monitor her driving. However when Naomi, who has no claims and says she parks her car outside her home in a pleasant area, applied for insurance with Aviva after being recommended by a family friend, she was stunned to receive a five figure quote of £11,542. 'If I was going to do that I may as well just buy a new car every week - I could afford to write off a car each week. MSN
  12. Hello, We have just had our storage and removal insurance claim denied I don't know what to do next. If I get anything wrong I'm sorry as this is my first post. Back in October we paid for a large national removal firm to come to our house, pack and export wrap all of our things and then take them to be stored in their warehouse for six months as we were moving to Eastern Europe to start a business. We took out their own removal and storage insurance covering us up to the value of £23,000 as we listed all of the items about £500 separately as per their instructions. When the time came for us to have our things delivered, we employed a second removal company to collect our things from the warehouse and deliver them to us in Eastern Europe. We also took them up on their insurance, for the same amounts as above. When our things arrived, everything looked fine at first, but as we started to unpack we saw that almost all of the boxes had been opened, then resealed and new box numbers put on with the old ones taken off. Some boxes even had two completely different numbers on, and the contents of the boxes was completely different to what was written on the packing inventory. Most of the boxes were almost empty too, but in was done in such a way that you wouldn't be able to tell until the box was open. For example, one of the boxes said that it contained my evening dresses and formal wear, it was a big box, but all it contained was our old and very worn picnic rug Our little fire safe had also been broken into, you can see where the lock has been forced and the contents are gone. We went through everything and the missing items come to just under £15,000. We informed both removal companies within four days of receiving our things. The first company who had stored the things said to fill out the insurance forms and get the information to them as soon as we could. The second company said that it was not their responsibility as everything had looked in good order when they collected it, but their broker sent us the claim forms and said to submit the claim anway. We put the claim in for the first removal company as the second removal company would not have been able to open and reseal the boxes as they did not have the branded labels with the first companys logo and details. The first removal firm said that they had sent our claim off to their brokers underwriters and that we would hear directly from them. After five weeks of not hearing anything, and of the removal company ignoring my emails and not putting me through to anyone when I called, I called the broker instead who said that they had never received our claim details. They asked me to send them directly to them, which I did. They have sent me an email saying that they are denying the claim as it is the other removal companys responsibility as the goods were in good condition when the collected them. I'm not sure what to do, it is soul destroying, these were hugely sentimental items, we are devastated. Any help or advice would be very greatly appreciated thank you. Sorry I should have added that we have now moved back to the UK as my mother became very ill and we didn't want to be far away.
  13. I took out a car insurance policy in May 2016 with Coop Insurance, however I needed to change my car, to a Leased vehicle, so I phoned them and changed the vehicle details on my policy. The amended policy is showing me as the owner, I phoned Co-op and advised them they needed to show the owner of the vehicle as the Leasing Company, they said they could not change the name, as they did not insure personnel leased vehicles. It was then agreed the policy would have to be cancelled but they wanted charge me a £50 cancellation fee. In my opinion this should be wavered as they were unable to continue the policy due to restrictions of their rules. I have now escalated this to their Complaints Department. Has anybody had any similar experiences with Co-op Insurance with regard to cancellation fees?
  14. Hi all, So a bit of a story so I'll try to summarise whilst keeping main points. Kuga on 3 year finance from Ford. Finance and V5 in parents name. Car Reg date 30th June 2015. Myself as main driver and policy holder. Policy through Lloyds (Covea underwriter). GAP not taken as policy has New for Old for vehicles less than 1 year old. Drunk driver (who has now been prosecuted) crashed into my parked car, writing it off on 11th June. He was fully insured Lloyds collect car, deem it right-off and pass to underwriter to handle. Covea collect car from them and confirm write off. So here are my concerns/questions that I'm hoping for some advice on. Firstly, Covea have offered me a settlement of £1150. Yep for a 1 year old vehicle, with less than 15K on the clock. Surely this must be a mistake yes? Covea are also charging me my excess? Surely as I'm not at fault I shouldn't be charged this? Only after all this has happened I realised I have made an error, and put on the policy that I am registered keeper on V5 and not my parent. Should I be worried that they now won't pay out. Everything else is 100% correct. Lastly, I am due to go to France in 2 weeks. I am driving down. Lloyds (through enterprise) have provided the courtesy car but have said I'll need to pay in the region of £300 to take the car abroad. Should I be expected to pay this? What are my options? As you can see it's a bit of a cluster****. Due to it not being my fault (I was sat on my couch!) if it all goes tits up and I end up having outstanding finance or having to pay to take the courtesy abroad would I have much chance claiming through small claims court against the idiot who caused all this? Any help, just even to put my mind at ease would be appreciated. Thanks all
  15. Hi I have Buildings and content insurance bought through Hastings Direct. In May 2016, we had a very large fire in our property which caused extensive damage costing upwards of £100k to repair. The cause of the fire is unknown, but it likely started in the washing machine (it wasn't on but was plugged in.) There had been no alterations to the wiring in the 10 months that we had owned the house. There is no suggestion of foul play. It is the first time I have made a claim in over 21 years of having home insurance. Hastings have now written to me to say that are refusing to invite me for renewal, no explanation as to why. Obviously it is because we have a very large and outstanding claim. However it strikes me as extremely unfair that we make one claim (not a string of claims, just 1 in 20 years) and we are now being massively punished for it. Now I have to declare that I have had insurance refused. Last year my insurance was approx. £240 per year; my new quote with another company for next year, having had insurance refused is now £2,500. Is there anything I can do to protest?
  16. Tawnyowl here with how to completely mess your car insurance up.Through rushing, not checking, many things. Now when i write a story when completely stressed out with a situation i mix a lighter look at things, helps me cope somehow.Knocking on a bit now so things prey on my mind.Especially after reading many stories over many years in the CAG So i hope before you read this you can understand that.I expect some stick, fair enough i can take that. I might even make a couple of mistakes but over time things usually become clear. Writing this at 1 in the morning so it is bothering me slightly. Been a driver for 29 years,no accidents apart from two write offs when i was not in my cars. One a lad borrowed his mums car and wrote my Ford Capri 1.6 off after flying round a corner. I was working on a clients house many years ago, rather large and did not hear the crash. Client came home at dinnertime and said have you seen your car.No i replied so went outside and there it was about one third the size it was when i parked it. Nobody hurt thank goodness. Glad i did not hear it really because i was papering rather a large hallway where one roll did one drop, i might have fallen off my ladder and double trouble then. Other when i was in a shop,a wagon reversed slowly into my car and wrote it off once again. Thought i was in Beadles about or Smile You Are On Candid Camera, completely unreal to watch such a thing. So two cars written off speed travelling 0 miles per hour. Move on many years end up with Saga, very cool, nice quotes everything great,1O Years plus no claims. Then my daughter wants to drive,so i say well young owl,i will phone Saga and insure you. Put you on my insurance so you can learn to drive. The old owl gets on the blower to Saga saying my young owlet wants to learn to drive so can you insure her on my insurance. No sorry no youngsters taken on under twenty five years old. Well my eyes glazed over and feathers drooped, sad that i had to say goodbye to Saga and move on. At the time i was looking at a quote 200 fully comp with breakdown 3 years no claims only because i had had a break for a couple of years previously. So i must admit the insurance market had me baffled slightly but googled away and cheapest seemed to be One Direct,1043.94p A great shock to me,but had to be done, wanted to help youngster. Struggled to pay each month,in fact late payments perhaps 50% of the time but always paid including charges. Anyway, received late payment letter, could not get through to usual place so paid,in a rush by card direct to One Call. On web including usual late payment charges. Received this back. . Dear Tawnyowl.6th April. Thank you for keeping your policy up to date. Your request has been sent to our renewals team who will manually process the payment. Please note that funds will not immediately debit from your account until the payment has been accepted. Cover will not commence until you receive confirmation that cover is in force and payment has been processed. One Call do not accept responsibility or liability until we have issued your policy documents to you. Now i did not think much about this and left it.15 th April comes, Policy started on 15th Oct cancelled on 15th April letter said Cost of Insurance 1043.94 Discounts applied to policy 15.00 Cancellation charge +55.99. Total cancellation cost 617.29.Amount paid 538.99 Balance to pay 78.30 not challenging the cancellation.Late payment made but perhaps to wrong dept, gave policy number. Panic set in,good grief if i had travelled yesterday i would not have been insured,Was my thought. Feathers nearly fell out, just imagine that. Did not think clearly, just wanted insurance as quick as,so googled away and found one Autonet. About 600 including breakdown.Myself only.Talked to them about cancellation on phone, had to tell them i thought. Asked Saga did not want to touch me because of cancellation.I had to tell them i thought. Daughter is going on crash course ready to take test, just wanted any bad habits i may have passed on to be ironed out. Daughter had had lessons before i gave her extra ones. Autonet want proof of NCD or i suppose another cancellation is looming. Thought to myself this insurance is sure costing a bit,let me root out the paperwork see why. Then i noticed One Call had me down for 0 years NCD- Good grief i must have on inception put 0 years NCD so must have paid more last year. I will phone One Call and try to sort this.Tell them last year was wrong and should have been 3 years NCD. Not try to get anything back just update things. After explaining, final quote from them was. So i talked to Autonet again, their reply after chatting away. It may reduce the premium slightly by applying the extra 2 year discount, yes. We do need this to be your most up to date no claims bonus. If you double check this and then come back, we can then look in to this for you. But at the moment One Call have me down as 0 years NCD what a mess,to put it mildly. Because when Autonet receive that proof it will be 0 years, and puff up in smoke goes my insurance again. Or increased massively. Should be 4 years NCB I am 1-Thinking of challenging One Calls cancellation charge as payment was made to the company. Thoughts are Shame they do not check all NCD whether 10 years or no years just in case someone makes a mistake. Benefits one way it seems. If there is a NCD Data Base, does anyone know if there is such a thing. Well i do not expect many if any replies but just thought i would pop in and show you what a mess i have managed to make on my insurance. And who knows may help someone, kind off do not rush, take your time when getting insured. Keep things filed, easy to get at,not like myself forgotten about, thrown in a box somewhere. At the moment i feel i am Donate to the Insurance Industry on a giant scale. Well good morning to you all, enjoy the Bank Holiday Weekend, when it arrives,it is a little cool though. The problem is off my chest now, written down so a hot chocolate and off to roost. What will be,will be.
  17. Ok to summarise: Received a DVLA fine for not being Insured, and not on the database. Checked my documents (they had me worried!) I am still insured! Yay. Conacted Insurer who assured me I am insured and they would check db to update it. Sent DVLA my appeal which included photocopy of valid insurance, cover letter and info etc. Received a DVLA Letter saying (this is not verbatim): "We checked with the insurer and there is no evidence of insurance, pay us" With angry haste, contacted my insurance company who said "let me investigate" They then got back to me saying that there had been an error on the computer and that my insurance had been cancelled by accident at christmas time (I had paid in full for a year) then gave me a new policy number that covered the year, apologised alot and said that I was insured in that time even though the computer dropped me by accident. Sent a copy of my new insurance cert with policy number and a note explaining the situation to the DVLA appeals address. Received a DVLA letter saying: "Your case has been reconsidered in light of this additional evidence. However you REMAIN LIABLE for the £100 fixed penalty...... The agency will take court action against you." I am still insured... I have an insurance policy covering 12 months. I have photocopies of all the letters. I have audio recordings of all phonecalls with insurers. (old habits die hard) What am I missing ? sine
  18. Hello everyone, first timer on this forum and looking for your advice. Sorry it is a bit long and I hope not too complicated. I am also trying to make things clear thinking about a FOS complaint. My wife and I are both EU citizens and moved to the UK in 2012 because I took a job in London. We both held EU driving licenses: I exchanged mine for the full UK one in 2013 as my work commute is by Tube and did not care about gap times during the exchange. My wife, instead, needed to commute to work by car and did not feel like driving around with documents being processed or in the post - what if she had an accident? Her EU driver license was due to expire on the 24th of May 2016 so she applied for a Provisional one to the DVLA on May 6th, expecting to receive it in 2-3 weeks - as stated by the DVLA website. She was not driving anymore after the expiry date. My car was stolen on the morning of the 27th of May, they came into the house, searched the groundfloor for my car keys and drove it away, also taking away both our wallets with all the driving licenses and bank cards, her ipad and handbag. They did not take my wife's car. Police came, report written, Crime Reference Number provided. We have a multicar insurance for which I am the policy holder since 2013. The V5c of the stolen car is at my name, as well the financing, my wife is the named driver. Same for her car: she is the registered keeper and the finance is at her name, I am the named driver. When I called the insurance to report the car stolen, it emerged that in their files I still held the EU license but DVLA confirmed the full UK: when I bought the stolen car (mid 2014) I also changed address and called them to let them know about this changes but clearly I forgot to tell them about the change of license. A few month later my wife changed her car (the one that wasn't stolen) and I notified the insurance about the new car. Still I forgot about the UK driver license but it was not intentional as I did not consider that EU to UK would be a major game changer. Now the the insurance is stalling my claim: they have not been very forthcoming about the reason until we squeezed out of them that they need want of my wife's EU license. With the original stolen in her wallet, we have requested a certificate from the issuer state. What I am worried about is that they will void my claim on the ground she was not covered by any legal driving license at the date of the car theft. We honestly did not call the insurer to inform them that her EU was expiring on the 24th as we expected the Provisional to reach her shortly and would have informed them upon its arrival, as it happened. Her provisional license was delivered to us the week after the theft - after the bank holiday, as expected - and issued from May 28th. She informed the insurer of that the same day, as her car is still covered by policy. Any advice would be welcome!
  19. Hello everyone. Recently (9 Jun) i bought myself car insurance from Sky insurance, who insured me with Markerstudy group. On Wednesday(15 Jun) I received letter saying my insurance has been voided due to "details used to take out this policy match against multiple policies which have already been cancelled or voided by us due to suspicious activity". I thought its some sort of mistake since I am a learner driver and it was my first car insurance. Today(17 Jun) after couple phone calls I managed to obtain information that the policy was voided because my mother who was named driver on the policy had previously had her policy cancelled which i didn't disclosed when adding her as a named driver. This was surprising for me as I took all her details from her current insurance confirmation which states that she never had any insurance voided or cancelled. after finding and going through all the past insurance paperwork, I found out that in July 2014, IGO4 had cancelled her insurance because she failed to provide them with scans of her driving licence, which had to be done through some form on their website. My mum claims that she uploaded images twice( after buying the insurance, and after receiving letter about missing documents) through the website they provided, apparently it was some system error on their part and they said that this was their error and this cancellation will be removed from the databases. But since it was a phone conversation I don't have any proofs of that. my mum has policy for her car, where it states she never had any cancellations, she is named driver on my dads car, where it also states she has no cancellations, and I got my insurance cancelled because I didn't disclose information about this cancellation. This voided insurance has bumped up the prices for my insurance from about £500 to £3,500 according to gocompare, and since it is my very first car insurance, I need help as I don't even know who i should call now to try to explain this. Thanks
  20. Hi, Just had our first and most definitely last encounter with Rcib. Here's the review I've left on TrustPilot for them. 'We found this shower via several comparison sites, regardless of site they were the cheapest quote and the price quoted was consistent across the board. We decided to go with them and selected the policy via Go compare, we wanted to pay the premium on a monthly basis. When we paid the deposit/ first payment a box appeared on the screen saying the payment couldn't go through and to ring them, which we did. While on the phone we checked our bank account and saw that the money had gone out, when we got through the young lady started going through all the details again as if doing a new quote. She then told us that the price would be more than quoted and tried to give us some spiel. I questioned this practice and got put on to someone called Gary (a supervisor;) he refused to honour the price and his 'like it or lump it' attitude was appalling. We now find ourselves trying to get our deposit back which we believe was taken fraudulently, we have lodged complaints with trading standards and the insurance ombudsman. They also have our bank details for the direct debit and wouldn't be at all surprised if they tried to take payment. Cannot begin to imagine what the service would be like if you needed to claim! We went with Bikesure for the policy and that was an altogether more pleasant experience" What a dodgy bunch:mad2:
  21. Hi Insurers: Ocaso Management Company - The Davies Group Underwriters - ?? I seem to be involved in a passive aggressive/aggressive aggressive and rather strange encounter with my loss adjuster regarding Alternative Accommodation. I've had a look through all the threads and my Policy Booklet and in desperation, contacted the Financial Ombudsman Service, but seem to have ended up with more questions than answers. My alternative accommodation was originally and begrudgingly booked for 21 days (after proof of a medical condition which would have been further exacerbated if I had been present) whilst works were to be completed at my property. During several (recorded) phone calls and emails, I queried how realistic this was and what would happen if the works took longer than 21 days and was told - verbally and via email that it would just be extended as needed. They have indeed extended the accommodation weekly since this time. During the first 3 weeks of the intended works, the management and coordination of the project was disastrous with either nothing being done, or further damage (with extra costs) being caused by contractors. My relationship hit rock bottom with the Loss Adjuster at this point (week 3, day 17), who was extremely annoyed that he had to sort out the mess and felt it appropriate to aim his irritation at me. I received 2 emails after this asking for the details of my contents insurance so they could share the cost of the alternative accommodation. I am unsure whether I had contents insurance at the time of the incident (Nov 2015) and never thought to make a claim as it was all structural damage (water leak from apartment above). I was never asked to provide details of this in the 5 months I was trying to get them to address the works. Apologies for the back story, but the next part wouldn't make sense if I hadn't laid that out. Last Friday whilst I was away due to a bereavement, I received an email from the Loss Adjuster saying that he would be moving me to a second accommodation closer to my (empty and gutted) property??? I emailed him on Tuesday morning to say that there was no need to move me closer to home. I was asked again for my contents insurance details which I have said that I will look into further. I received an email this evening (sent this morning whilst at work) that they have booked me into a second accommodation (B&B) starting tomorrow, no address, just the name of the hotel and no mention of a reason why I have to move again. The email came from the accommodation part of the Davies-Group. I emailed them to say this wasn't feasible, but received no response. I suspect it may be the cost - which does not exceed the policy exclusions etc - however, this has not been stated. If it is the cost, why don't they just say that they want me to move because it is too expensive? If that is the case, why was I offered it in the first place? Why did the loss adjuster originally approve it? (As a project manager and anyone with an ounce of common sense knows that these projects never run to schedule, at best, you take the time estimated and times it by 2 - I digress). Can they do this? I live in a 1 bedroomed property, am in an alternative 1 bedroomed property and am now being moved into a hotel B&B. The Financial Ombudsman Service can't raise a complaint until they know who the underwriter of my Policy is and the earliest I can get that information will be Monday morning and that is a process I was advised will take months to sort out. Time I clearly don't have. This doesn't solve the immediate problem of being inexplicably ordered to leave a property that was offered to me, to have to move unnecessarily for a second time. No mention was made of how I'm going to get everything from one place to another, or if it's suitable! At a bit of a loss. The bereavement has knocked me for six and I have a horrible feeling that there is nothing I can do and the aggressive bully of a loss adjuster is intent on making things as miserable as possible for me. (I also discovered on Tuesday that due to yet another mess up with a lack of communication from Davies with the sub-contractors, the works will take even longer to complete!) Please advise. Thanks in advance.
  22. Hello, I hope someone on here can help before things get worse. I have taken out car insurance with Octagon and emailed them all the required documents. I even called (expensive hotline which is the only way to contact them) to confirm they received all documents. All of a sudden I have received a text message saying they will cancel my policy unless I get in touch. I have called them again and asked what the problem was. All I was told is that some documents are missing. When I told them that I have emailed all documents twice and have previously been assured that they have all required documents, I was just told that no one from "that department" was in today. I was then advised to just email all documents again "for a third time". Having done so I today received a letter that they will cancel my policy on 17/11/2015 because I have responded to them. Firstly I have responded every time they text, wrote or emailed me. Secondly they are not saying in the letter what it is that is missing or why they want to cancel my policy. I am worried that this is just a [problem] where they cancel your policy to charge a cancellation fee and then charge an additional deposit to re-start the policy. Can someone please help me?
  23. I'm hoping someone can give me some advice here. I took out a Learner driver policy for my son last September after buying him a car for his 18th Birthday. He was the owner and I stupidly did not change my name to his on the V5 so was the registered keeper. When I took out the policy I was named as a named driver, the policy was in his name and I declared that he was the owner/registered keeper of the car as I had my own vehicle. Two weeks ago, he drove his car to his friends and I drove the car home. Unfortunately, I drove into the back of someone and the insurance said the car was written off. The insurance company have refused to pay out because they said that I didn't say that I was the registered keeper of the car.I can accept this as an oversight on my part but they have now voided my sons policy and he has to state that he has had insurance voided and therefore insurance premiums are ridiculous! Im absolutely devastated about this as it was a genuine error on my part. Has anyone any advice regarding getting reasonable insurance cover for him? Many Thanks.
  24. Seriously boiling mad - I have had RAC breakdown insurance for last 4 yrs . On auto renewal direct debit . Just discovered after checking my bank online they have taken out £113 ( Last years renewal was £85 ) with no letter sent to state new premium - straight on phone to wait 20 minutes for call center . I have used their service about twice in 4yrs . Demanded a full refund for the absolute cheek of them , got offered a check in the post . ( Firstly in was a £16 refund ) Now waiting for their Complaints section to contact me for a direct transfer as it has maxed out my poor account - will not be using them again or recommending these shysters . Beware if yr on DD payments
  25. My sister ws looking to buy a car. Its a Cat D that has been repaired. She is ok with that as her current car is the same and shes had it for 10 years without a problem. Short story - see a car, had test drive, all good. Paid deposit. On the day she was due to collect was contacted to say that the car had been hit by another vehicle in a hit and run and was sent photos of the damage. Owner said that it would cost around £100 to repair but he would knock £150 off the price. Sister says now not interested and asked for refund of deposit. I passed the photos around some friends in the trade to get an idea of the cost of repair and got quotes from £350 (smart repair) to £1300 (main dealer). Owners son phoned to say we had agreed deal and he would get it repaired and then all ok. Sister says no, wants deposit back as the new damage, even though repaired, is not the car she wanted to but. Owner now playing up about returning the deposit. My question is this - the current owner bought the car and had it repaired from from the original Cat D accident. He has owned it since January, it is taxed, MOT'd and insured But - the V5 still shows the original owners details meaning he has never changed the registered keepers details. Just need a bit of ammunition to try to get the deposit back with the least amount of fuss so assuming insurance companies ask if you are the registered keeper, how much more information would they need if you were to say no. I am guessing that the owner has said that he is the registered keeper.
