  1. I purchased a watch from this shop a few weeks ago, but wasnt satisfied with the fit or the feel of it when I got home. I called the shop and asked to return it but was told that they cannot accept returns only exchanges for the same value. Is this legal or do I have any grounds to insist that they accept a return? Thank you!
  2. Dont know really where to go with this. My husband bought be a tag for the birth of my 1st daughter 4 years ago, in this time it had been back to tag atleast for times with various issues (too fast, too slow, replacement movement and now it has stopped) Well cut a long story short somehow whilst in there care along with Royal mail it has gone missing. They phoned me to say it had gone missing but not to worry it would get replaced but not with the same watch as they no longer make this watch. I could choose a different watch and they fully understand it was sentimental and they would do whatever it took to make me a happy customer again! I wanted a watch that was automatic and of diamond bezel like the one that was lost They sent me various watches via email ranging from 1000-6300. But non of these fitted the bill. Got a phone call today saying they would give me the money back for the watch or give me one of the watches that is similar to mine. what do i do can i do as obviously my watch cant be replaced

  4. Hi there, wondering if anyone could she some light onto a situation, i feel like there may be nothing we can do but i know some of you guys are fantastic! The story! I wanted to get myself a new watch and had been looking at a watch in argos, other stores had it but argos at the time where the cheapest. Now i went into the store a few times to look at it and eventually parted with my cash to buy it. now the woman who by now i had gotten friendly with explained about the argos cover and if i ever dropped it or smashed it i would be covered and decided to pay the extra a year passed, had a baby, got a new table, moved home. one day in work looked at the time and saw condensation in the watch, the seal must have broken. Went to look for my receipt and could not find it anywhere. Went into argos and explained the story and even got the woman who served me to come over and back me up, which she did but no the manager was having nothing to do with it! i feel awfull as they seem like they will do anything not to repair it, the only other thing i can think of is that i can remember the date could they look me up on CCTV? Or should argos not have a way to dig it up on the receipt. I fear i may be in the wrong but i hope one of you guys can help me out!
  5. Hello, I hope I'm in the correct section. I've always found this site useful in answering any questions and have never needed to sign up until now. I hope some of you lovely users can help me out with a situation I've fallen into. 2 days ago I took my "guess" watch into a branch of "tgs jewellers/ pawnbrokers" to have the batteries replaced. I decided to go to this particular place due to it being open for several years I automatically assumed they know what's what... As they repair/sell and buy watches. I took the watch in and the gent told me it'll be ready in an hour, I thought nothing of it and returned in an hour. The gent at the counter gave me the watch and I put it on, asked him how long the batteries should last he replied "a few years minimum, they're good quality batteries"... At this time I was trying to correct the time on the watch and found the stem was stuck solid. The watch itself has ZERO problems prior to this battery replacement. The stem is set up so you pull it out one click to set the date and another click to set the time. Then click/push it back to have it set. The stem is completely STUCK down at this moment. I ask the gent what's happened... He fiddles with it and says "it's a push system... You push it down an set the time..." no. No. That's not how it is, he argues an says yes while he sets the time... I ask him how am I supposed to set the date then? He replies"I don't know, I don't know how the watch works" At this point I started getting a bit upset and ask him "have you changed the internals or something this is not how my watch works?" he says "no I was there when the batteries where replaced upstairs, it couldn't have been changed. And goes out back. I can see him on the pc with someone doing some type of video chat. Then shows the watch to the camera. I don't know what's happened. He returns and says they will have a to call in the watchmaker who will have a look at it. I have little option... Either take the busted watch or leave it and hope its fixed. I leave it with them and am told it should be ready in 5 days. It's been 2 days and I'm getting the sweats every time I think about the watch. The watch not only is valuable money wise, my father purchased this watch for me on my birthday 2years ago, unfortunately he has passed away and this is pretty much the last birthday I had spent with him/ gift I got from him. I'm scared they have done something to the watch, changed internals/mechanism? I'm even more worried now if they do manage to get it back to normal what if it falls apart in a few days/weeks. I'm pretty scared and unsure what to to. I'm hoping someone would give me advise how to handle this situation. I have no idea what to do/say/expect. Long story shortened: Gave watch to jewellers for battery replacement Collected the watch, doesn't work the same mechanism or correctly Jewellers calling in a watchmaker to look at it
  6. Hello, Wall rendering solutions, previously called render exterior wall coatings (in 2011) did the rendering in my house (Nov 2011)which went wrong - render started flaking, missing around pipes and other places. This happened within 2 weeks after finishing job. Also as the wrong window protection was put on the windows, the crew left a sticky glue on the windows and damages marble window sills. All was reported to the director of the company , He promised to correct it. After many promises he never came and resolved the issues. In Feb this year all letters sent to the company started to coming back to me. I called MD and asked for the new address - he again said to me the one that was not occupied by him. Then I found in Google that MD changed the name of the company and more that he does it EVERY/ EVERY SECOND or TWICE A YEAR. I was shocked what I found. In the meantime I contacted trading standards, went to cab and found out that the only way is to take him to the court... Until now he has not sorted the problems, all stays on promises. He offers 25 years of warrenty that is uselless so be carefull, my advice. Before you choose the company check the history - this is what I learned from this bad experience, from the company that now says that is no 1 in the uk!!!...

  8. My OH is always watching docus and reading up on earthquakes, volcanoes and tsumanis - And he been talking about the risk of one starting in the Irish sea for sometime - caused by the "Azores-Gibralter fracture", apparently it's gone before - and it's due to go again, yet our governments are doing little to prepare let alone warn us. They have passed it onto DEFRA - although the original page has gone,it does give you the option to click the archived tsunami documents (I still can't open PDF documents though, so don't know what DEFRA have said about it. Here are two link for you to have a read through - it's interesting, if not slightly worrying (although if it happens it happens). Do you think government should be putting better safety measures into practice, just in case? http://www.tsunamiwatch.co.uk/ http://www.gsi.ie/Programmes/Bedrock/Projects/Tsunami+warning+system+for+Ireland.htm http://www.defra.gov.uk/environment/flooding/documents/risk/tsunami06.pdf

  10. HI I am new to the forum so I apologise for any problems in advance. I am desperate for any help that you may be able to give me. I have a Rotary watch that was stopping and starting so i presumed that i needed a new battery. While visiting my aunty in hosp i passed an Event jewellry shop in the corridor and decided to get the battery replaced there as we were passing. The lady took my watch in the back and after 5 mins returned stating that the seconds hand was stuck and she did'nt think the problem was the battery but there was another woman working Sun who had ben working with watchs for twenty years and if i could leave it she would look at it. I did just that and after three days collected it with my partner still to no joy as they said they had tried another battery in it and it still did not work so i took my watch and left the shop. Later that week i took it to my local watch man who after taking the back off saw immedietly that the wax seal was off a screw? and that they had thumbed the battery in and in doing so had broken a cog, in effect rendering my watch useless and needing £50 to repair it. My issue is as no money changed hands and no paperwork where do i stand here. what rights do i have etc... Any help would be very appreciated. Sorry for the long post.
