The work carried out by Scimitar was of a very high standard and highlighted the poor quality of the work that had been carried out on the gable end wall. However, there is is a problem, which still exist about the floor not being properly done. In October 2003 yet another claim was submitted for subsidence. This time to the kitchen extention to the annex and to subsidence damage to the party wall. Cunningham Lindsey Bristol was appointed as Project Managers Mr.Adrian Cook bein...

  3. ...good and undamaged, fairly new double oven which was well above the level of our flood. I emailed Crawfords about it, who are our loss adjuster, who told us to raise any issues with the contractor. My husband finally got a return call from the contractor this morning who says we told him we wanted a complete new kitchen. We did discuss replacing wall cupboards, which will partly be at our own expense as the originals cannot be matched, but at no time did we tell him to rip out items that have not been written off by our insurers. As far as we're concerned, we've given no instructions at all, but then neither have we seen the loss a...
  4. ...ave obtained as people either looking for work or justifying their fee. If you review forums about Crawfords they are gaining a reputation as being loss adjusters that tend to be extremely helpful to Insurers in limiting claims to the lowest level possible. Once upon a time loss adjusters were independent and were there to help policyholders, but now as Insurers tend to have options of various companies to use, they appear to select ones that are most helpful to them....
  5. ...re with a company who dont want to honour an agreement. If you read the posts its always Axa- Aviva -Crawfords - Ival that get the complaints so people can draw their own conclusions. You would have thought the bigger companies would deal with customer services better as they have more experience but we both know this is not the case. As I stated I dont value anybodies opinion on how an insurance company deals with a claim unless they have experienced the claims process and then positive or negative they are as welcome as me and you to air their views.I also think that insurance companies should tell you the truth about the service they pr...

  7. ...I have had experience of Crawfords with my claim and they are not independant they are working for the insurance company. My own experience of them is they are completely biased towards the insurance company - think about it they are paid by the insurance company to minimise the cost of the claim. As your claim is sizeable the only course of action for you is to instruct a loss assessor to work for you and on your behalf. They usually charge about 10% of the claim but believe me they will more than save you this with the additional amount they will get you and to which you are entitled. I have had experience of this and believe me the...
  8. ...lower. As they have instructed a loss adjuster this should help if they are independent - like Crawfords are. A good loss adjuster will provide you with a fair outcome. Loss adjusters usually get paid a percentage of the claim so it is not in their interest to reduce the claim unnecessarily. However, this will be tempered with the fact that AXA are likely to put a lot of work their way....
  9. ... for refusing to pay out on legitimate claims.I requested copies of all correspondence between them,Crawfords and my agent and anybody can do this it costs about £10 and if asked they have to supply this by law. My own case is particularly interesting in that despite them catagorically denying that there were adverse weather conditions at the time of the claim their own internal memo states that the weather conditions were adverse but to withhold this information from me.The agent also stated in their surveyors report that I was covered under an insured peril,Aviva then said there had been a mistake and the report should have included the wo...
  10. ...y claim Aviva denied there were adverse weather conditions and said that a 3rd party I think it was Crawfords had checked this.I however knew the weather at the time was very bad and made a subject access request - under the 1998 data protection act.The internal memo was very interesting basically stating that I was escalating the claim and also that the both myself and my brokers were in agreemant that the claim should be settled. The internal memo then interestingly states that they (Aviva) have checked with weatherquest for my postcode and that high winds and heavy rain were prescent at the time and that it would be difficult to maintain a...

  12. ...How did you find the contractors? Who paid the contractors ? If L&G or Crawfords acting for them arranged for and paid the contractors, then L&G have a contractural responsibility with the contractors to repair the house at their cost. If you found the contractors and took control over the arrangements, then you would be responsible for sorting this out with the contractors. You would be best to see a solicitor with all the paperwork, to look into the best way forward. They may suggest starting legal proceeding against the contractors and forgetting about the FOS. The FOS are a shambles at the moment with cases ta...

I have still received no written response or even acknowledgement of my complaint from any of the companies involved. My FOS complaint is ongoing and will be chased up further tomorrow as it is not 8 weeks since I originally submitted it. I cannot believe the amount of stress and inconvience I am encountering to resolve what in my opinion was a minor pipe repair had it been done shortly after my original report back on the 29 November 2010. S...

  22. ...Hello Alys I am very sorry but not surprised to hear of your encounters with Aviva/Crawfords/Ival. Are you able to get a second valuation done by your own jeweller? Would have thought that you could contest their figures, particularly if there is a substantial difference.? Are you sure that you have to accept vouchers? Since posting my last response I have escalated my complaint to the Aviva CEO and copied in Barclays. If theres no satisfactory response from them within 10 days then I am taking everything to the Financial Ombudsman. Its totally un-acceptable in this day and age that large companies can take premiums and avoid ...
  23. ... my Barclays/Aviva contents insurance claim following a burglary. The unbelievable incompetence of Crawfords handling of the claim and - next link in the chain - Ivals' assessment procedures have left me stressed, angry and sad since much of my claim had emotional attachments. Claiming for the household side of the burglary felt like wheeling and dealing in a bargain basement, and took up a lot of time and research. Finally agreement was reached. Ten weeks on a resounding silence has only just been broken on valuation of jewellery taken and the result would be laughable if I were not so sad, and totally unacceptable. I am also bem...
  24. ...rder for me to get a full understanding, could you please answer the following questions?: 1) Has Crawfords attended the property? 2) Has a restoration company, such as Tadleys Group, been to your property? 3) How old is the sofa? 4) How much was it when you purchased it? 5) What claims have you had in the previous 5 years? 6) When was this claim submitted? (i.e. before, during or after the carpet claim) 7) When was the trousers disposed of? (i.e before or after the claim was reported) 8 ) What type of settlement are you looking for? (i.e. Repair, Replacement or Cash Settlement) I don't think anyone can give you an effec...
  25. ...Well its another month gone by and I am still listening to all the piped music at Aviva / Crawfords. Did get a letter yesterday sent to my previous address by Aprea asking if I wanted to close my claim. Thank you Beccus for your response on this post - Since providing you with my details I guess you are up against the Aviva wall of silence too. I will be actively pursuing with the financial ombudsman as I paid my premium in advance and in good faith and was supposed to be covered by the Barclays policy and the damage was caused by a neighbouring property. None of which seems to matter once you have paid your premium. This is the worst organis...
